A friend stopped by Sunday night to show me a Charger Rt they brought from a broker out east. 440 4 speed nice paint and dash. Now the bad battery and fuel cell in trunk no cut off on battery, line lock that has leaked at one time. Rust hole in trunk. Hacked together wireing, worn vinyl top, terrible chrome, gas cap, wrong seats, belts, new turn signals in hood with no wiring feeding them, rusted headers, loudest fuel pump I ever heard.
Engine has Edelbrock heads and victor manifold but did drip oil on my driveway.

They were happy with the car so I didn’t say anything negative.

Paid $40,000 man I wish I had some to sell.

Anything with nice paint and bodywork is worth 15-20 grand. Add to that it's a Charger R/T, Wheels and tires, runs strong? Price isn't out of line if that's what they wanted. All those issues you noted are simple repairs and it is an old car done by someone else. You have to expect to do a few things to each persons different standards.

I like it and the seats. Not fond of black rocker paint, but a great color and looks straight. 4 speed! Tires look well used. Must have a little oomph.

If I could see that much wrong in the dark Sunday night I’d be afraid of what’s under the paint.
Also if you take the time to put new lights in the hood and not have them hooked up what other shortcuts did they take.

Not matching #.

With the side scoops and hood turn signal indicators painted black, I'd guess it was restored by a Chevy guy. Otherwise it's a beautiful car and 1970 was the best looking Charger ever.

Plum Crazy one for sale locally for 3k more and it appears nicer than that car.

Non-numbers matching is fine for some people. You can take it out and run it hard vs hiding it in the garage or trailering it around instead. Practically every Mopar here that has had a lot of money spent on it is an oem restoration, and those cars seldom crawl out from under their car covers these days.

I'd say they paid high market value. That car looks like it was put together (not built) by either a flipper or a Chevy guy.

The door panels are wrinkling up.
The carpet is poorly fitted.
The tail stripe is not in it's proper location.
The lower door panels are body color - not painted black.
Ugly modern seats.
Cheapo aftermarket steering wheel.

Whoever put the car together is not a "details" kind of guy. Which makes you wonder exactly what kind of lack of detail they put into things like wiring and gauges, ignition, fuel system, brakes, engine/clutch/tranny/diff. It's obvious "good enough" is good enough for them. As a buyer laying out a fair chunk of money - I'd want things done right.

I love '70 Chargers.... but I'd probably pass on that one. For 40 large, a person could find one that's either not been fooled with or is closer to being correct.

But that's just my initial impression based on three pictures. Who the hell am I, right? If it runs good, stops good and has had the suspension gone through, maybe it's not such a bad deal. It's just that I am a details guy and if I'm going to go through the hassle of making my seat seems straight, I'm going to be just as pedantic dialing in my vacuum advance or degreeing the cam in so the car both looks AND runs great.

If I had bought this car I would have the door scoops painted body color and the rocker panels too. If the stripe is a decal I would remove it and replace it positioned properly and paint the bottom of the doors inside black. Easy fixes that would go a long way! I know that I can only afford about a quarter of a 70 Charger myself!

My friend and former co worker lit my old desk on fire clowning around! He says that my new desk is too cool to burn so he's not going to torch this one! Lol!

Bought mine for 12K back in 1996...I did a bunch of suspension & interior restoration/upgrades, but exterior-wise nothing really changed since then - numbers matching too

Every once and a while I get the bug to sell it, maybe now's the time?

Second generation Chargers are red hot right now this is the time if you are considering selling the car. A matching numbers R/T in a great color should bring a premium. I have a matching numbers 70 V code Charger R /T project car that I am resisting the urge to sell, but I am struggling with it because I have been bitten by the Hellcat bug hard. Selling the V code would be a last resort if I can't raise the money some other way!

To the OP, nice that you had the courtesy to not say anything negative about the car. That's tough to do sometimes when someone shows up with a new car purchase, all fired up, and all you can see is the problems they obviously missed.

You were kind enough to recognize they were happy and leave it at that. A good call!

Agreed,
I had the one I just finished out in the driveway a few months back. Someone driving by stopped and asked if it was for sale. Told him no. After some small talk , walking around and looking at the car. He insisted I put a price on it.

So I told him it was not my car, but it would be well into 6 figures to buy it. He didnt blink and asked how deep?
I dont think this guy would have blinked if I told him $100K to own it

I gave his number to the cars owner and told him it was up to him, He has yet to call him , nor does he plan to.

That said, IMO if the OPS car owner is happy , more power to him to fulfil his dream

Thanks Peabody. To tell you the truth after her boyfriend opened the door and banged it into the front fender on my daily driver without even acknowledging it happened I was kinda shocked. She found the car for him and I didn’t want to upset her by telling her he banged the door into my car. It was dark out when it happened but I looked today and it did chip the paint on the wheel lip on my car.

I almost took my truck out of the garage so they could pull inside. So glad I didn’t because that chip would’ve been on the Cuda.

I was kind on the description of this car also. Looked like an old race car someone put perfume on. The short block looked old and worn orange paint that they painted body color over to try and make it look fresh but was chipping off. Had an old Indy valley plate on it but the heads and manifold looked new. Old MT valve covers.
I agree that that black lower paint screams bondo along with the huge amount of new undercoating applied. Flipper

Concidering the skill to do things one self being a lot less prevalent.
More and more things being made with the intention of not be maintained.
Financing so easy to get and things being priced out of the, "Save up for it", economy.
Add to this, instant gratification becoming a growing "necessity".
This is quit simply expected.
A lot of people can't see the forest for the trees.
The car is better than mine was when I got it in the early 80's, or will ever be again. It's mine though, and I've owned it for several decades, and had my fun. My Grand kids will have to dispose of it, cause I can not afford to repair it, nor will I ever get rid of it.
I do have other toys to work on and enjoy.
That said, I agree with not bursting the bubble.
As long as the folks that bought it are happy,
Who are we to cloud up their "Sunny Day"?
My biggest issue is that the O.P.s ride got dinged and no one seemed to notice, let alone care.
These are usually the first folks to blurt out about being "Disrespected".
Ok, I'm getting off my soap box now.
Have a good night everyone.
