Did a little racing at MoKan yesterday with our 225k mile junkyard hemi resulting in shattering previous class ET and MPH records along with getting the win. It went 6.83 @98.3 mph in the 1/8 with a VERY basic engine combo in our 3150lb Ex cab Dakota. The lil hemi is nothing more than a stock 04 shortblock, wearing a pair of lightly touched up eagle heads, comp 273 cam, PAC springs, Ritter intake w/ 4150 carb on 93 pump gas. This thing is a monster for what it is and put our previous 360 magnum power plant to shame. I must add that the 360 was pretty stout having almost 11/1 compression, ported 2.02 valve magnum heads, 250@.050 SFT cam and Indy intake with the same carb. The 360 could only muster 7.18 @ 95mph. For those those that are on the fence about going gen III hemi, this should help sway some to take the leap. Sure glad we did!

This is pretty cool...I've considered a similar engine to put in a 2700 LB race weight car.

What rpm do you shift at?

They do run very well, the more people run these the better

What are you using for an ignition system? Crank trigger to fire the coils?

Nice results. I have some Eagle heads sitting on the shelf with Pac springs . I was saving them but I might put them on my stock short block.
What thickness head gasket did you use?

Any decent guess at your compression?

What kind of timing are you running?

Totally stock valve-train?

Still pulling to 6900?

Thanks for sharing!

Stock rockers and shafts. It does have Comp hardened 5/16 pushrods. I would have used the stock ones but didn't have any from the Eagle head donor engine. Compression is in the neighborhood of 12/1. Stock head gaskets. This thing revs very quickly. It's like a 2 cycle. You have to be very careful in the burnout not to turn it over 7000. Yeah it's still pulling like a fright train at 6900. We did stick a used 6.1 oil pump in it for a pressure increase. I think it will live for quite a while under 7k. I have not messed with the timing at all yet. Timing is as delivered from MSD. Doesn't show any signs of detonating at 24* total. I'm gonna put my Sullens E-85 carb on it and see what it does. I think there is a tenth or maybe 2 on the table by just making the switch to E.

That's awesome. Always wondered what a combo like this would run!

Thanks Dustin! I've been following your build as well. I'm wanting to replace the 440 in my Duster with something similar to your setup. I want something that is low maintenance and hauls the mail naturally aspirated. Your car is very impressive!

The stock Pre 09 pistons yield monster compression with the Eagle heads

Did you open up the top ring Gap at all?

Refresh my memory, what years for Eagle heads? I guess I'll be looking for a set.

How much cam lift at the valves and what kind of clearance to piston.

This is a shelf cam?

Comp 112-502-11 cam. Known as 273 xfi cam. .550/.547 lift. Clearance is tight. Not much room for anything bigger without intake valve notches on the pistons. Tried a 229/235 Drag pack cam but would not clear factory 08 and down pistons. Intake valves were contacting pistons.
