Picked up a 14, 5.7 from a ram that was in and running. guy I bought it from had removed and replaced because of valve train noise. New to this platform, so really don't know?? Is this a decent block and heads to mess with? Could you build some decent hp without cashing in your 401k!! Any ideas? Thanks!

What's your opinion of decent hp? One member here has an '83 Cherokee with a 5.7L/TR6060 combo with the VVT locked and a 66mm turbo...other than that it's stone stock to my knowledge - made 530+whp and ran the dog piss out of it all year with no issues.

The Hemis make great power, the pistons and rods are a weak point in all of them though. If you plan on spraying or putting any kind of serious boost to them, a drop in set of slugs and rods isn't a bad investment.

pistons & rods are the weak link in pre 09s in the later ones they are much better, but for boost you should open up the top ring gap.

you can get in to the high 400 low 500hp mark with a few mods. The 09 and later 5.7s have lot of potential ( i'm just not a fan of the VVT part)

VVT is easy to use or eliminate, its not nearly as complicated as one might think.

The pistons are better, the top ring is a little lower, the rod is slightly better because it has just a hair more meat where the old ones broke.
