Can anyone verify for me what I think I remember reading on this subject. When running aluminum rods you should have .050 clearance to obtain the proper .040 quench. I'm .010 in the hole and going to use a .040 gasket.
Thanks in advance.

.060 is more common with aluminum rods, you may be ok with .050, just make sure you're sure about that .010 in the hole. You did check it with the piston rock figured right?

We run .058 with bme rods in a small stroker, will go .055 on next build

Sorry for the bump but was looking for a little more input.

I've ran closer than that before, but had witness marks in the quench. I'd just watch how hot it gets. I'm thinking this is a pulling motor, or drag?

Piston rock figure? Dt correct me if I'm wrong but the piston being loose in its bore will rock a few thousands so what ever number that is will be divided by two? Let me know if I'm wrong on this. My old engine was zero decked but the piston would rock .004 out of the bore. I'm running GRP aluminum rods and with that engine I used a .065 cometic head gasket.

Yes it is a pulling engine. I run a 700 rpm chip with a set of C&H aluminum rods, short piston 496 stroker.
