I have the opportunity to get a clean low low mileage Dana from a 2006 Dodge pick up. Looks a bit different from the one in my car. Anything different and need to know? Spring pads look different. Plastic plug. Worth the $ to fabricate for my A body?

I don't know for sure but I don't think it will be a Dana 60. Others here will know for sure.

340 Cuda is correct, it is more than likely a AAM 10.5 0r 11.5 axle.

Can't speak for a 06 but my 99 3/4 ton had a Dana 70 in the rear and a 60 in the front. Even if the rear you are looking at is a 60 the truck pads will be a different.

Didn't the Ram SRT-10 trucks have a Dana 60 rear? That's the only Dodge truck I can think of that has used a Dana 60 in the rear for a long time.

My online lending library shows no Dana 60s or 70s in use as a rear axle in 2006.

I expect the axle in question is from American Axle and Manufacturing (AAM). They are stout, 10.5 and 11.5 ring gears.

In other years, especially behind Diesels, Dodge'd do hybrid axles like a Dana 80 with Dana 70 ends.

Back to the 2006 axle - you shouldn't be able to break it in stock form. If you convert to semi-floating axles, you can pick which ever ends you want to match the brakes you want. Custom axles don't cost that much. But it only is practical if the gear ratio and differential (limited slip or not) are to your liking. And if it'll fit under your car.

I tend to look under '70s Ford 3/4 ton pickups. They are all over the place and all of them have Dana 60 rears that can be converted for car use. Vans have different setups, many equipped with Dana 61s and semi-floating axles, closer to what you'd see under a car.

A 61 may be the hot ticket if you want to run 3.08s or something like that. Otherwise it isn't worth the effort. The D61 was built for highway gears.

The SRT-10 trucks do have Dana 60 rearends. The diesel trucks haven't used a 60 REAR in a LONG time (or ever?), just for the front axle. I know my '01 has a Dana 60 front, but Dana 70 rear.

From a 2006, it should be the AAM as mentioned. I think they have helical limited slip? I haven't seen one converted for use in the cars, but looks like a nice alternative to the Dana 60.
I read in one of the SAE journals about the AAM Quantum axles are making the rear diffs lighter, stronger, and more efficient for the new trucks, but look totally different:

Yeah, Quantum!!!!! The press release repeats over and over that it's a completely redesigned thing and is lighter, more efficient, etc, but doesn't go into specifics other than to say the gears are set without shims because of better manufacturing.
