Bored and surfing parts online. Started wondering if I could put my pistons, crank, and block to use in a 470 combo. To my surprise, it looks like a standard 6.70 BBC rod drops right in with my piston pin ht. Am I correct? Do these parts work together to make a 470?

* My crank (currently stock stroke 3.75 @ -.010 on the rods) ground to a 3.915 stroke with a 2.20 rod journal.
* My current pistons are these: https://www.uempistons.com/index.php?mai...f95b16d8636db5a
* These Rods: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/esp-67003d/overview/

My rudimentary math: 3.915 / 2 = 1.9575 + 6.70 + 1.322 = 9.9795 (.0005 below deck)

Yes???

Yes your math is correct. Only issue is if you can find someone to offset grind your crank accurately or not. Odds are you'll end up with a little less stroke but it will still be fine. Last time I tried that trick I ended up with a 466 engine that ran really strong.

You'll also want to double check your compression ratio since it will increase with the additional volume.

Thanks Andy. I ran this combo through the calculator on the Iconn website, with an .040 gasket it looks like a static ratio of about 11.25:1. Probably perfect for what I do with it.

This is just a thought at this point. My current 451 still has plenty of life left in it. 1st priority is having the heads ported. But this fits nicely down a ways on the priority list.

IMO leave it alone, or do a 4.25" stroke and reuse your pistons if you just have to recycle something.

Go for it cause I'm thinking about the same combo just different heads

71 demon stock stroke 440/indy ez-1 running 10.10 @ 132.14 mph in the 1/4 and 6.36 @ 107.46 mph in the 1/8 not in the same weekend but It did it then I sold it.
67 Belvedere that worked it's way in the 10's

If you guys are dreaming of more horsepower, why not go all the way to 512 and be done with the shortblock? If you don't the next step up a couple of years down the road will cost you more than the parts to get to 512 now. BTDT MORE THAN ONCE. If I had gone big when I started my rb block build, I would have a B1 Mc headed, aluminum kb motor making over 1,000 hp for about the same investments it took to make 880 hp.

Ha-ha! That's my next build. Same here. Should have done it the first time! I would just be doing a freshen up by now.

My question would be do you plan to make any other changes if you do this ? I only ask because just the stroking from 451 to 470 may not pick it up much without any other work. You will be picking up 19 cubes but without other mods I dont see that picking you up more then a tenth or two. I would want to do other work at the same time like maybe some head porting if yours dont have much done to them. Or like Greg says and just go real big and with other work pick up alot ! I know I went from a 906 headed 440 to an EZ headed 493 and I also went with a little more cam also (MP.557 to a .585 & .592 with 264 & 270 @ .050). I did keep the same 850 carb and same gear and converter and I went from 11.49 @ 116 to 10.76 @ 124.79. But I did a little more then just adding the cubes. Ron
