Has anyone tried the Synthetic version of DOT 3? I assume it doesn't destroy paint like the old stuff. I have used Dot 5 in a recent build, is the DOT 3 Synthetic a better route for the old cars, or does it make much difference vs. Dot 5?

I put DOT 3 syntetic in my '89 Diplomat (if you consider that older car) without realizing it was synthetic until it was too late. No problems whatsoever.

DOT 3 will still harm paint. Only DOT 5 which is a silicone fluid will not.

I think all brake fluid is "synthetic". They are all mixable (even silicone! though not recommended). No problem with DOT 3 "synthetic" mixing.

Thanks. I'll stick with dot 5 then since I've had good luck with it. I was st Meijer and saw the dot 3 synthetic and was just wondering.

Don't mix DOT 5 with DOT 3 or 4,serious seal swelling will result.

Myth. In order to receive DOT certification, all DOT fluids must be able to coexist in the same system with no ill effects.
