Hello everyone. I need help with my engine paint color.

I have 1971 Fury I 440 police car (PK41UF) that was built in June of '71. It has the original U code E86 440 high performance engine.

The previous owner painted the engine Street Hemi Orange. However, upon cleaning some parts, I found the Chrysler Turquoise Blue underneath.

What color should my engine be?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

did you find any blue on the engine block?

for '71 any "U" code 440HP engine should be "street HEMI orange" w/dual exhaust manifolds

the blue available on the non-HP engines for 1971 was "Chrysler blue"
1969 was the last year for "turquoise"

Thanks for the reply.

I know all the charts call for Street Hemi Orange, but I did find some parts that had some blue residue. Maybe transplant parts by the previous owner?

Hemi orange is a different shade than wedge motor orange.

Per the 80-90's Mopar Performance literature it was "Race Hemi Orange" and "Street Hemi Orange", all the street orange RBs got SHO, only the 64 / 65 Hemis got the RHO.

At least that's how I recall it.

iagree I agree with Dan, but will add, IMO some early 69 Street Hemi's could also have been RHO.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It is a true numbers matching E86 car. I just do not want to waste money on the wrong color.

Then you need to talk to Frank Baldason, he has the correct paint, and if I remember he told me wedge orange was different than Hemi orange. So was the orange on the air cleaner.

I wouldn't rule out it being Corporate Blue. Let the engine block tell you by sanding or stripping in spots.

I have found specs of blue on some parts. The dual snorkel air cleaner is gloss black and is original as can be.

OK. So I have learned the difference between Chrysler Corporate Blue and Chrysler Turquoise Blue engine colors.

The car was built at the Newark plant for the VA state police. Have broadcast sheet.

I have had two other people tell me that it is possible the engine was blue. shock
