about the current political climate, my 401K is up 20.6% for the year so far and the overall value may double by the end of the first quarter of next year...and I hope it keeps going and going!

Mine too, I'm not complaining, just worried about an impending correction.

Yep, it's on FIRE. I am starting to invest a lot of funds more conservatively though. Way to heavily invested in the company I just retired from.

No doubt. The bad thing regarding corrections is they overcorrect before reaching stability. Gonna be a rough ride.

I lost it all during the last administration, so it just doesn't matter to me anymore... frown

Up another 1K with my contributions and the market rise again today!

I am really surprised that the market didn't tank after the Vegas tragedy, usually in the past there would be a significant dip after a horrible event like that. Tim

I was pretty much on the road for 4 years from 2007 to 2011 and never checked on it. It is my fault, but you would think they would have said something like putting everything in a conservative plan, a call would have been nice... eyes

Yeah, this sounds like a broker issue. After 2011 the market has been soaring. The Obama financial guys did just fine.
My broker went conservative before this last election without telling me. Markets always ride and I missed some of the best days of the year. That being said, it is a long term ride and I worry about the next correction. We will just make up a reason to invade someone to divert the news from the economy and boost $$$ of weapons.. Invest in these companies.

I'm rolling with a 21% rate of return right now, I also missed some of the early benefits this year as I wasn't watching too closely and could've gained a little with some repositioning. I'm not complaining though, the natural process is ups and downs...

That said, I had a year under the Obama administration that was something like 34% rate of return.

Almost 30% for this year. That said, I had one good year in the 8 previous and the other 7 years just moved sideways. Need another year like this to come even close to catching up.

I just rolled mine over to a more conservative plan.. Did great, but my opinion is the "correction" is coming, and at 62, I wanna keep what I have..

Even the radio show I sometimes listen to has guys on who seldom talk negative about the stock market now saying it's ran past where it really should be. Might drop some. Might get sawed in half again instead. If the tax overhaul doesn't go thru that may trigger the drop according to the "experts".

All I know is people here are back to spending fat money remodeling their homes to increase it's "value", and not because they really need to. Banks running ads to take out loans against your home to buy stuff feels just like 2006ish. Just like the last time when the public debt level gets too high the banks will shut off the spigot and it all falls apart again.

The government wants the values to really rise before they take it all from everyone to pay off the National Debt.
