WOW !! Am I ever glad I walked into the garage this morning !!! My overhead heater has been working effortlessly for the last 20 odd years !!! Then this morning when I was in there, it kicked in but I did not hear the fan blowing - rather a HUM !!! Thought I better check things out . . . turned off the furnace (this is a hanging off the rafters type gas heater with fan) . . . after all this time, the fan blade had "walked" back on the motor shaft and then when it went to turn, caught on the fan guard !!! . . . I was lucky, no motor burn up, because I was there to shut things off right away . . . anyhow, pulled off the fan/motor/guard, and the fan blade screw to the motor shaft was tight, but I loosened it and moved fan blade back to it's original position, tightened the screw, reinstalled and voila, furnace working 100% !!!

Just a call out to everyone, check your furnace, at least more than once in 20 years !!!!

Cheers

Mark

I turned my furnace off last week to fumigate the house like I do every year before winter. Turned it back on a couple of days later and the darned thermocouple wouldn't let the pilot light work. Had to replace the thermocouple. Spent $12.95 and replaced it myself. You'd think a part that expensive should last longer than 29 years. Furnace came with the house when I bought it, so there's not much chance I can get a warrantee on it.

What a rip. whiney

I'm sure you can sue the prior owner's for failure to disclose the possibility that the furnace might fail.

I had a furnace just like that before my garage burned down, worked great for a couple decades. Now I gotta figure out what to buy... runaway

If I had it to do all over again, in floor heat . . . no dust, warm to lie on underneath the car - hmmmm, might be able to take that nap with no interruptions . . . . boogie
