How much mile per hour can you scrub off using a throttle stop down track? The car goes 9.22 all out at 142. I need to get it below 135 so that I don't need a license to drive it. Can you scrub off 8 MPH using the throttle stop?

Is that a track requirement?

You can use a stop to scrub off the mph. Why not just put a chip in it?

I assume you're talking about a timer controlled in-line or under the carb style stop. I had to kill about .7 or .8 and did it all in the first 2 seconds of the run. Only lost 1 or 2 MPH. You'll have to do it in the middle of the track. If you get too far down track, you won't be able to get the ET into the 10s. Consistency goes away when you run the stop too far down track also. I would recommend a 4 stage timer (drop it once early to kill ET, drop it again at 1000' to kill MPH. Makes it tough to fender race you too) OR some type of stop or bolt on the carb/throttle linkage.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

The throttle stop and the delay box are already in the car. No it"s not a track requirement it's an NHRA requirement. They slid in a new disclaimer at the front of Super Pro (section 4 A) of the 2009 rule book which is on Page 58 and it states " Any vehicle except ET motorcycle running faster than 135 MPH must meet the minimum requirement for 9.99 second vehicles "including driver credentials and protective clothing" That last part is the new addition. So that means that all of you Super Street guys that run at 10.90 and 145 MPH, but don't have a license will need one now.

Most of the newer boxes have 4 stage timers.

9.99 you need cert and a license .

T/S will kill et not alot of MPH

135 MPH will be interesting with the street nitrous cars and s/s car.

Whats the issue

You can throttle stop it on the top end. Know a few dragsters and door cars that are doing that. We run 1/8 mile and one Camaro capable of running 5.70's, throttles stops it off the line then again at the top end to run 6.30's at 110mph. So it is possible, depends on how you set the stop. My

That rule has been in effect for S/ST for several years now.
No news there.

Many tracks up here wont allow "down track throttle stops". But thats the only way to kill some MPH without killing too much ET.

However having played with my very consistent daytona, throttle stopping it on the top was a little less consistent. Because your going at a high rate of speed, and then slowing it down any amounts of wind really effected it differently.

If not too much work, may be a better route to regear, or recam the thing. Taking some cam out of it, wont hurt consistency and will help everything live much longer.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll have to play with it while I go through the process of getting a license. Hell I don't even know if this old body will pass a physical for a license.

How about box settings? How soon do you go on the stop? 4 to 5 tenths after letting the brake go?
