I have just brought in a project from one of those horrible "restos gone bad" kinda deals. I am looking at a poorly painted, absolutely gutted shell with some new trim parts installed. Planning on removing some of the shop's work, including suspension and brakes, and going with all new stuff there. There is no dash, no interior, no engine, trans, crossmember, etc. but that stuff doesn't really bother me. What I am really looking for is proper routing of factory style harness, assembly drawings for dashboard area, any type of engineering drawings that would help put the puzzle back together. I am not going concours here, trickflow 493 and vintage air, but I want the car to be put back correctly. Thanks for any help in the right direction.

The Factory Service Manual will be a huge help with your project.
It has several drawings of the wire routings, and lots of other info that I'm sure you'll find useful.

You'll probably also want to join the E-Bodies.org forum.
Their reference section includes a lot of useful info, and it's still growing.

You need a copy of the 70-71 factory parts book, which has exploded views and part #'s. You can buy CD/DVD copies of it on Ebay.

It's like 2000+ pages and hardcopies do pop up for sale, but they are $100 +/-.

The 70-71 parts book is available via free download on E-Bodies.org.

No dash doesn't bother you? What about the VIN tag?

Or you can get yourself a parts car to use as a reference. Get all the info from that, hands on, then sell when done. I have a 70 parts car I am selling, PM me if interested.

Great stuff, guys. Thanks! I didn't mention, owner has dash in his possession, in a million pieces from what I saw. Says he has a 73 parts car as well. I really do appreciate the advice

Youngblood,

As Morty asked above, what about the VIN tag? You know, the metal tag that is attached to the dash PAD and visable through the windshield?

Do you have that?
Does the number match the number on the title you got?

Then there are two body stampings to look for and of course the fender tag. All this is just to check that the car is legally clean and that there is/are no "numbers" issues that you should be aware of.

A 71 Cuda is a high profile car, the above items are important on any car, real important on a Cuda.

Talked to owner today, says VIN on dash matches title, says he has had it registered before. Fender tag gone. As far as numbers, I'm just putting car back together, I won't be the ownwer. Hell, I can't even afford the time/money for my B-body.

Pacnorth, what are the stampings you mentioned?

Again, thanks to all

Well if you're not the owner it doesn't really matter but there are two body stampings that should match the last 8 digits of the vin. These are located under the hood. One is on the cowl, driver's side, up near the windshield near the vent cover, the other is on the radiator support, driver's side, next to the top tank of the rad.

They are used to ID that the chassis matches the other documents, but of course a LOT of sheet metal could be replaced.

Doesn't sound like there are "numbers issues" with this car. Good luck!
