The front bumper is now ready to head to the Paul's. Cut about 3/4 of an inch out of the front 3/8" from each side.
Thanks
Pat

With moving the rear bumper tighter to the car I had to shave the bumper guards to fit the lower valance. Started by removing the lower mounting tab and grinding away approximately 3/16" on the bottom edge to clear the valance. Then welding the tab back on.
Thanks
Pat

Here you can see how much I needed to grind off

Front valance required more work than the tail panel as there were a lot of factory imperfections. Someone also cut a couple of notches that required welding, just when I thought I was done with all the metalwork. Back to the block sanding :-(
Thanks
Pat

I took a little break from the block sanding and bodywork and started making the aluminum front bumper brackets. Made a paper template of the driver side mounts and was very surprised when I flip the template inside out and it fit perfectly on the passenger side mounts. Need to do some welding and bend up the other 3 mounts.
Thanks
Pat

Nice job Pat!

What made you decide to go with aluminum brackets? Yours seem to be in excellent shape. Just wanting to shave a little bit of weight?

Larry,

Yes all of my original mounts are in very good condition but I was just trying to cut more weight off the front of the car.
Thank you
Pat

The right side mounts are bent, just need to be welded and then the welds ground down. I will test fit when the bumpers return from Paul's chrome before I paint the mounts, I'm sure they will need a little tweaking to fit.
Thanks
Pat

I'm using everything from vice grips to C clamps to a large vice, block of wood and a hammer ;-)
Thanks
Pat

Love the fab work you're doing on bumpers. I drew the bumpers in on my 74 Challenger (Just another 74 Challenger thread) to make them more like earlier models. Rears were easy but fronts were a bit more of a challenge. (in-board ones hit frame rails when moved in) I hadn't considered just fabbing new ones so I chopped up stock ones wink Bumpers seem to fit well but after seeing your mods, I may revisit possible mods on mine before I finish. Blacking out mine (all black car)
Keep up good work. Would love to see earlier pics that are currently not viewable due to PhotoBucket issues. Cant wait to see final project!

Scott

Scott,
Photo Bucket screwed up a lot of Great threads on a lot of forums, very sore subject. I hope to follow up and replace the photos one day but it's just very time-consuming as you know. Thank you.

Finished welding up the right side bumper mounts and ground down all the welds. When painted black I think it would hard to tell that they're not original.
Thanks
Pat

How did you go about making the bends for your bumper mounts?

Thanks

With a lot of brute force I managed to hit what I'm working on more often then my thumb ;-)
I hope these pictures help.

Looking good Pat. Are you going back to black?
