I would like to know if there is anyone on here using PHOENIX brand slicks size 29.5 X 11.5 X 15 part number PH362 that could give some feed back? I am currently using M/T slicks that are the same size 29.5 X 11.5 X 15.
I am due for new tires in the spring and while doing some searching for those I came across the PHOENIX brand. What gets my interest is that the PHOENIX slicks have a 11.8 tread width VS 11.1 on the M/T's. The PHOENIX slicks also have a 95 circumference VS 94 on the M/T's. Both of these items will leave a bigger foot print that I need. My car does well in the 60 foot until it gets hot out and my times start to fall off. Also is there anyone out there who has a worn out PHOENIX in that size that I could use as a test fit under my car?
Thanks! MJ

Not much help but we tried the 29.5 x 10.5 Phoenix after running the same size M/T. The Phoenix was a lot taller than the sidewall designation, it rubbed on the body work when the tyre grew at speed. IIRC it was acting more like a 30.5 tyre, car ran well with them though for the few passes we had them on till we realised what was happening. A friend bought them to try on his 10 sec truck, he was impressed also. HTH's

I used those slicks for years, probably used up 4-5 sets of them and had excellent luck with them, yes they will grow with speed and I had to notch the front lip of the fender well also. up

I ran the Phoenix 29.5x10.5 on my 9 second Dart and loved them, they also were bigger than advertised.

Thanks for the replies!
I am going to try and find a used one to check all the clearances out.
Also wondering if anyone used them without tubes?
MJ

I ran mine w/o tubes. I had a tube tear a few years ago right after a run and kinda scared me away from using them.

I ran them tubeless for years on my roadrunner. Liked them better due to more tread per section width than similar MT's

Im a dealer for phoenix tires, if you call them direct they will tell ya what roll outs are available. The ph362 can vary from 94 to 96 in roll out. Call Mike at 800-531-0855. Their tires are always fresh and you will receive a matching set.

Quickrunner,
That was the info I wanted to hear tubeless and that you liked them!
WheelsUp73,
Thanks for the contact info for Mike at Phoenix!
I am going to try and find a used ph362 to mount on one of my rims to make sure I don't have any clearance issues before I buy a new pair.
Thanks! MJ

I never used that size, but we always used Phoenix after Firestone quit making them. We always had very good hook with Phoenix, and we used tubes. And Phoenix tends to run a bit large on size, compared to other brands.

I have used them for years with good results. I have a few used sets that you can have for trial fitting...send a UPS pick up tag to Connecticut and they are yours.

You'll get more runs out of them too because the sidewalls are stiffer than the mickeys.I saw .02-.03 reduction in reaction time when I switched to pheonix from the mickeys, due to the sidewall,I assume.

WOW!
I like all the positive comments on these tires!
For those running the PH362 29.5 X 11.5 X 15 were you using a 10 inch wide rim or a 12 inch wide rim? Also what tire pressure worked well?
Thanks mcduff for the offer on the mock up used slicks! I'll be sending you an e-mail soon.
Thanks to all! MJ

I have been using Phoenix (tubeless) for nearly 20 years, although a different size (32 x 14) Once you try them you will never want to touch anything else. They are good for holding air, I use ivory liquid and rub it into the inside sidewalls before I mount them.

I took up Steve ( mcduff ) on this site for a tire just for the shipping cost. He came through for me and I would like to thank him here as a positive person in the hobby! Here are two things I have noticed when comparing the Phoenix to the M/T tires. The Phoenix is a good 1/2" wider and because the Phoenix are a bit heavier the sidewalls feel thicker and stiffer. I am going to get the tire mounted and see if it clears everything before I order a pair of new ones.
Thanks! MJ

UPDATE!
I called Mike at Coker Tire from the info member WheelsUp73 gave me and discussed my plans. I told mike that I had both 10" and 12" wheels available. I also told him that his website suggests a 10" rim. He clarified that it was a minimum width and with these particular tires a 12" rim would be even better. So today I had the test tire mounted on one of my 12" rims. I couldn't believe it when I compared the test tire to the old M/T tire! The Phoenix tire was wider but didn't bulge out as much! Again maybe because of the thicker sidewall? I have more clearance in the wheel tub with a wider tire! The one down side so far is that the Phoenix tire weighs 3 LBS more than the worn out M/T tire! I am going to lighter drilled rear disc brake rotors at the same time and this will off set some of the added weight. The Phoenix tire has a rollout of 95" VS the M/T rollout of 94". This will also give me a bit more foot print!
So now I am convinced the Phoenix tire will be a better tire but now I'm wondering if the PH376 "W" would have the same sidewall shape and if I could get it under there with 13.5 inches of tread width???
Thanks for the comments and help!
MJ
