HI ,
When installing an early 360 magnum engineto an old 904, which flexplate do I use ? the one from the magnum or the LA engine ?
THanks for the info
Dan

Doesn't matter as long as the torque converter is properly balanced for the early 360 magnum.

So does the magnum converter fit on my old 904 ? or do I have to balance the whole rotating assembly ?

Depends on what tranny the magnum converter is from. The other option is to use a neutrally balanced torque converter and buy a new balanced flexplate from B&M or use the weight kit and template from Mopar Performance and weld the supplied weights onto the neutrally balanced torque converter to balance to early Magnum specifications.

Sounds like the new balanced flexplate from B&M or the weight kit and template from Mopar Performance to weld the supplied weights onto the neutrally balanced torque converter will be your best options.

Do the flexplate, they work great. It will also make torque converter selection/replacement easier if you decide to change later.

I got a Hayes flexplate for my 340, and got a neutral balanced torque converter. Works great, just make sure that you get the 360 one, as they are not the same as the 340 ones.

Your current converter is neutral balance if it came from a 273 or 318. You are kinda confusing me with the "early" magnum. Is it a magnum or an LA 360? Just know that the two are balanced different and the magnum needs the tone ring flexplate.

Get a torque converter that lived in a 904 and was bolted to a 273 or 318. Then use the B&M flexplate that is balanced for an early magnum and you will be all set! There should be more than a few to choose from in the junkyard.

you will need 360 motor mounts for the old LA style blocks to go in where a 273 was

273,318,340 are a different mount than a LA360

the mag engen will have the old LA engine mount bosses and some engine mount boss in the middle of the block for the magnum "ram" trucks mounts

B&M flex plate for 360 magnum engine will use the 273,318,340, torque converters which are nutural balance

the old 273 dist will fit in the mag engine

the old LA style timming cover and v belts all bolt on

the cam is a roller cam with a short nose and can not run a fuel pump

there are adaptors for this to run the ecentric and stock fuel pump

you will need a 360 car oil pan if you put it in a car

its a great swap with a carb/intake,elect dist, headers into an older ride

you can run the newer mini starter also which is a good upgrade for it as well

The years of the engines could be a problem, in some years the 273 crankshaft has a smaller register for the converter pilot hub, to mate the 273 converter to a later LA or Magnum a spacer ring is needed.

If the Magnum is '96 or later and the crank position sensor is going to be retained the original flexplate must be retained and redrilled for the 904 converter.

Years make a difference, it's best to be specific.
