I'm working on putting this Duster back together and the original nameplates are in okay shape but there isn't any attaching hardware. The pins do not have any thread marks so they don't screw on. I see that Year One has some name plate retainers which look like plastic tubes. So those must push on and hold the nameplate on the fender? Is that what I need?

these are what you need and Ace hardware carries them.

These are the correct ones and like stumpy said Ace hardware probably carries them.

Those look like they will work but they are different than the ones that Stumpy suggested. The ones that Stumpy posted fit into the fender and accept the pins on the nameplate. The ones above push on from the rear. Year One and RT Specialties show plastic tubes that slide on from the rear. I looked in the Master Parts book but didn't find a part number for the retainer so I'm not sure what the factory used. Maybe they used all of the above depending on the plant or the year?

I believe the originals on a duster were the nylon ones.
I have seen the metal ones on earlier cars. The duster did use the metal ones on the plastic badge that goes on the inside of door panel.

On my Dart Sport I just glued them in the holes with The Right Stuff.

I ordered a couple of different types so I'll see what works the best when they show up.

I talked to Tom at RT Specialties and he said for '72 the plastic clips were most likely what came on the car. The barrel nuts were used on earlier cars. He sells a kit of 5 plastic clips for $3 so I just had him send me a set along with some other stuff I needed.

I found this emblem in the scoop pan one time when it was held on with speed nuts. I glue them in now. 😁

Good thing I ordered both types. The plastic clips didn't work on my car, the nameplate ended up loose enough to rattle around. So I put the little barrel nuts on there and that made it nice and snug. The plastic clips must require a smaller hole in the fender or something.

Here is what I used: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131759049694?rmvSB=true

If I remember correctly, the plastic ones have a slight shoulder that gets pressed into the hole of the fender first. Then the emblem pin gets inserted which kinda swages the plastic out to hold it in place. They are a pain to install but when done right they hold well.

That was what I did but I think the holes in the fender were too large for the clips. The holes in the fender were right at 3/16 which fit the barrel nuts just fine. The clips seemed like they needed a smaller hole. Could be the clips were not made correctly or maybe my fenders were drilled for barrel nuts. I don't really know and I'm not sure who would know. I called a couple of folks but nobody had any dimensions or hard facts. That is why I just bought both and tried them. They were only a few bucks each so it I didn't mind trying both to see which worked the best.

I think the metal ones are a better solution anyways. Perhaps someone drilled the holes larger at some point in time.
