Dad is working on getting parts to build a new motor for my sister race car. Car will be shifted around 5800-6000. Looking at Icon 741 and SRP 142069 pistons currently. Going to be a budget build.

Icon vs SRP
1.675 vs 1.670 compression height
2618 vs 4032 alloy
530/118 vs 489/138 weight
$500 vs $470

I like that the Icon has slightly more compression height, but it also weighs 21 grams more.

If you had to build a motor with either of these 2 pistons, which would you chose and why?

Thanks

CH/price are almost identical. that sure is a significant pin weight difference. what are the piston top configurations (relief/dome/eyebrows) & open or closed chambered heads.

If the car isn't going to get nitrous or anything I have had good luck with the KB107s. I have got hundreds of passes and thousands of miles on a set that is in a 475-500HP 360. That is probably the most inexpensive "performance" piston out there.

Piston tops are -5cc (Flat tops with 2 valve reliefs). Will have Edelbrock heads on it. Current motor has speed pro hypereutectic pistons with stock rods, looking to upgrade to a forged piston and scat i beam rods...

Qualty pistons, you can't go wrong with either. Icon are the forged piston like from the parent company that also makes Keith Black pistons and their replacement piston line is Silvolite. SRP is the less expensive line from JE pistons.
Material choice is probably the biggest difference. Are you going to spray NOS or turbocharge or supercharge? The 2618 is stronger. It also expands more per degree. If the engine is going to be street driven mostly with some racing thrown in, but no NOS, then the SRP 4032 gets the nod. Because the alloy doesn't expand as much as the 2618, the piston to wall clearances can be set up tighter and decrease the amount of piston slap upon cold startup. If you think piston slap doesn't matter, check out the thousands maybe millions of vehicles serviced by chevy dealers when the first LS engines came out with pressed pins. Yup, piston slap caused GM to change the design to a floating pin, at some cost to the management. Other brands have experienced similar events.

Seriously, 21 grams difference is unnoticeable. You can buy the Icon 118 gram pins separately, they are also 2.750" long so they should fit with no hiccups.

Dog is right on the 21 grams being a small difference

Dusterkid, Iam currently selling my edelbrock top end off my 360, I do have a custom set of pop up pistons made for the closed chamber edelbrock heads, they are racetech forged pop ups, Nobody makes a pop up piston for a closed chamber stock stroke 360 with eddy heads, If your interested I would sell them.im going with a w9 combo so I need new pistons
