Just picked up 6 engine from a friend who is moving and one has a casting date of 1963 with V 38 on the pad. It also has HP at the lower right of the pad punched lightly, is there such a thing as an HP 383 in 1963? shruggy

V is for a 64. I guess they did. You have one now.

Cool, so it is probably a cop car motor out of a 64. It was in a barn when the guy moved in 15 years ago, so hard telling how long it has actually been sitting. The other numbers on the pad are 9 4 so it sounds like it was built on 9-4-63 for a 64 vehicle.

I had one of theses cars from the Va state police just like above. First a police car black-unmarked, then a fire marshals car, then post masters car painted po blue. Big fishing pole on the roof and certified speedo. I put my max wedge in it for a race car in 1973

I would say yes but at that time, the HP designation was used to distinguish a 4bbl assembly from a 2bbl assembly. It would not mean the same thing as 68-70.

How would it be different?

Cam and valve springs would be different between a 2 and 4 bbl.

1964 Dodge street wedge engine stamped V42 HP.
Wouldn't a V 41 be a 413?
