i have a 71 duster it currently has a 383 auto 8-3/4 with 5.13 , 32x14 slicks, should i got to a smaller tire for the 1/8 mile or keep the same size that i have .i want to go thru the lights at around 62-6500 rpm, or would the smaller tire rev to fast for the 1/8th mile track.

Need to know what kind of power you are laying down. I have a 32 inch tire and 5.13 gear and go through at 6600 in the 1/8th with around 600 HP.

Your new car has a ton of gear as it is. Id stick with the 32" tire.

But come on , you could be a whole lot more forthcoming with the details of the car. Dont tell me you bought a car that you know nothing about Except for its gear, tire and 383 engine. Give us some previous performance numbers. mike

My guess is a tire change from 1/4 mile to 1/8 mile would be of little benefit. I doubt it would make more than .10 difference and more likely about .05

The only time I could see it helping is if you had way too much tire now for the HP you have. Which means a taller gear would be the better answer for both 1/4 and 1/8 mile.

The 383(if it is a stock stroke 383 and not a 3.90 or 3.75 stroker motor) like to RPM a little higher than its bif brother 426 and 440 motor with the same heads, so I would probally get a set of 13x31x15 or a set of 12.25x31.25x15W. I have ran those same size tires on a Duster with a cross ram Hemi bracket motor and a different 440 cross ram bracket motor, those tires would hook either motor on marginal tracks The 14x32x15 are a lot cheaper used ( and use to be a very popular size for SS and tube chassis cars) so maybe that is why there on there still

seeing as gears are usually figured at 28 inches right now your 5.13 is actually a 4.46 gear, and with the 28 would be a 5.13, but if you wanted to see your rpm difference ,add approximately 13% to what you do in the 1/8 now.but can your car leave with the smaller tire[due to higher gear ratio] bob
