Hello...
I was pointed to this forum looking for help with a plymouth road runner. We have been in the process of restoring one for a friend of our shop owner but having problems with the rear window. He didn't have many parts including a back window so we ordered a window from our local glass supplier but the one shipped in doesn't fit and its the only brand they can get. Where is a good place to get a window that fits properly? Who make the best glass for plymouths?

Thank you for your help

Better double check to make sure that you buddies Road Runner may not be an old Superbird with the different rear window design.
I have a 70' Road Runner also. I can measure the window where ever needed for you if you need any dimensions to compare to your new rear window?

Thank you for the recent reply and pictures of the window. I believe that looks like the one we tried but it didn't fit with the bottom curves. This post was over a year ago and the owner of this car has since moved on to a 67 Stang Fastback, something we are more familiar with and it will be more nasty with the 428!

Probably had the corners replaced with crappy repops... I know this is an old post, but the corner repair pieces they used to sell were flat and worthless.

If the dutchman panel was replaced without having a back window to fit then the bottom of the backlite opening is likely too narrow. It may not be the glass.

iagree

Likely the glass is correct. We replaced the dutchman panel on my 70RR vert with an NOS piece and the OE convertible well trim did not fit on the corners. We had to massage the dutchman to align with the corner trim.

70Runner and cbusters, I think you were right about the dutchman panel being replaced wrong. As I was loading it up to be shipped out, I removed the old carpet from the package tray and i can see somebody's crappy work. Looks like they just welded a new dutchman panel over top of the old dutchman panel as i can see the bottom of the old window rail once the carpet was removed. At least it is now somebody elses headache. Ill attach a pic for you to see this crap.

Thanks for all your help though and next time I get a dodge in here, I will reach out to this forum again before i buy 3 windows that wont fit!

Thanks Again!

That's a Superbird rear window plug installed over the stock dutchman panel, that's the way they were done, now you've opened Pandora's box for the popcorn crowd...

AMD has repro rear windows for 70 SUPERBIRDs.... retail is approx $950 IIRC...better hurry if you truly need it as it's a limited run, the rear window trim is available as well...$850, IIRC they have a package deal, window and trim for approx $1500

I never knew they installed them over top like that... never worked on one. I've seen clones where people don't even install the plugs work

The 69 Charger Daytona and 69 Charger 500 models are done the same way also, the stock dutchman stayed in place and was covered over by the Aero plug install

Dayclona,

Thanks for the info on the rear window but we got rid of that car a few weeks ago after all the troubles with the rear window and other other parts. Thats a pricey window but I wish I would have talked to over a year ago when we first started having issues with the window. Im glad to see that one go.

Yep, seriously! Lol. This would be the equivalent of going on to a Mustang board and complaining about not being able to find a hood that looks just like the one on my Mustang so I kicked on down the road. Oh, and it had someone name on the car too, like Shelley or something like that. He might have had a Superbird with a RR front end. Who knows now.

Never know?... This could be the beginning of one of those stories you hear about some Chevy/Ford guy(s) who unknowingly had a potential 6 figure car in their hands and let it go for reasons like above...probably had some engine mods that looked like someone drilled holes in the valve covers to fit the ignition wires through too?...lol!

After this post sat here for over a year, I offered help with the window. No need to start rumors here about it being sold as a RR without a nose. It was just s SB missing the nose, passenger fender, hood and horizontal stabilizer. When I was emailed pics of the window I suspected what it was and made a very reasonable offer to obtain this project for someday down the road when I have time. If anyone has any of the missing parts I mentioned, I would be interested in them.
