Good first day. Weather was pretty good...a little warm at times but overall pretty nice. Tomorrow should be a little cooler. I found most of the parts I was looking for. Ran into Rhino right before we left for the day.

Saw a really nice 72 Satellite wagon in the pits. Cool understated 70s style blue paint with brand new blue interior. Probably my favorite car so far. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Skipping this year, doing the Dream Cruise instead. Now that my employer retired me I'm having to watch my nickels and dimes.

Flew from Cincinnati up the Nats this morning. Took us exactly 49 minutes to fly there.

Buckeye Lake as we were heading northeast toward the track at 5500msl high. Had to fly above some clouds this morning at 3400msl.

The track at about 4000msl.

10am this morning.

Private airport right next to the place. I did not have permission to land there though.

They were cleaning up oil in the shutdown area when we were there this morning at 10am.

Cool Challenger 1. Just got home here in Indiana. Saw you fly over and land earlier today. As my wife and I watched in all my 30 years going I've never witnessed anyone land there. We were afraid something was wrong.

Great shots. Good turnout this year I thought. I would say the Nationals is alive and well.

I just got back a few hours ago, seemed like a good turn out. I picked up a few things I needed. I couldn't find the wheel opening patch I was looking for though. Those idiots and there golf carts/atv's are getting out of hand. They should rethink allowing them in areas with a lot of foot traffic.

Cool pictures from the air

That's Awesome

Anyways

Does the Judged Field even exist anymore ? Left side of the track

Did it move ?

Didn't the Car Clubs (Moparts for example) used to park in the Judged Field

We used to walk through hundreds of cars back in the day on the Judged Side when we first entered the track from the free parking next to the river

It's been over five years since I have been there after almost twenty years straight between Columbus and Indy

Nice to know they are open to the public.

When I was judging the Nats for 12 years there was a guard there checking to see if you had credentials to get into the tower, has that changed? shruggy

For about the last 20 years we've been using the bathrooms in the tower.

Yes there's a security guard there, but normally they don't even say a word to us.
On the rare occasion (it's been years ago) they have asked where we were going.
We said to use the bathroom and they always said "Okay" and we went right past them.

It's probably because you have such an aura of superiority that he let you through. National Trails is(was) my home track for racing and spectating since it FIRST opened so I think I've earned some right to criticize them.

I took my 3 year old and my dad yesterday, first time we haven't had a car there in 17 years . It was the best Nats experience I've had in years. Even got to see the Silver Bullet make a pass, I'm not sure if that or my daughters excitement about the "Rainbow" Cuda was the highlight of my day. I can't wait to take my hot rod again next year and run trophy like I usually do.

I went on Friday. Got some good deals and had a good time. Show is definitely smaller in several areas. Midway is much smaller than it had been years past. On Friday there were quite a few empty swap meet spaces.

Saturday is always bigger then Friday. Saturday was very busy IMO. The judged side continues to get smaller. I guess most people don't care about having their car judged any more. They want to be over on the east side where the action is. This years show was better then it has been in quite awhile. twocents

I did see the plane take off from the airport next door. It didn't occur to me that it was Challenger1. That's cool!

I had a list of parts I wanted to look for. I found all but one. Here is the most important thing I brought home...

Had a great time at the Nats. Also had fun at Buckeye Lake Cruise. My buddy almost wore out his rear tires on his green Charger Daytona.

We came in Thursday night, just got back home a couple of hours ago.

The weather was the best I've ever seen down there, and this was confirmed again and again by many of the old timers.

It was a very nice weekend, and I spent a lot of the time hanging with the Mopar Missile and HDK Suspension guys, who are some of the greatest mopar guys on the planet. It was an honor to get to talk with Al Adams of Chrysler fame who worked along side the late great Tom Hoover, Greg Charney, Joe Pappas, Hemi Denny and his brother John from HDK suspension, Dan, Mark, Mike, Arnie, Vance Cummins and the entire Mopar Missile crew of "Usual suspects" Those are some GREAT PEOPLE!

It was a fantastic time, and the Silver Bullet racing side by side with the Silver Bullet 2 was amazing to see, and they put on a very entertaining display, and seeing and hearing about the wire car was fascinating. Great people, great weather, and great fun.

What's not to love?
