Has anyone swapped(or tried to!) a 6.4 truck engine into an earlier (2003-2008) Gen III 5.7 powered truck? Wondering if the 5.7 computer could support a 6.4 with tuning and other compatability issues.
Thanks,RT

I've pondered this as well. I can't see why it wouldn't, plenty of big cam stroked 03-08 rams running around. My only thought is will a BGE 6.4 take an early 5.7 tone wheel on the crank? Guess you'd have to run an early cam sensor as well (and lock out be cam)?

I believe you are correct.
Does the 6.4 truck engine have Variable intake runners?

6.4 has VVT and variable intake runner. I would talk to Arrington or Bouchilon and see what's been done.

I think you're correct, but it would be an early 32 tooth 6.1 reluctor wheel because of the 4-bolt attachment to the crankshaft. The 5.7 only has the 3-bolt reluctor. Definitely have to lock the vvt cam out with a kit...

Locking out the VCT is super easy and no "kit" required. I can't finger out how to post pics or I would show you.

I didn't realize that. Good to know. Following this thread close for tips and knowledge...

Droping the 6.4 in the 03-08 rams is easy, Lock out the VVT, Change the tone ring, and dump the intake, IMHO use a SRT 6.1 intake. there's some tuning but nothing outrages..unless you have an 03 Ram then I would swap the PCM over to the 05.

Would you have to change the cam sensor?

For swapping the 03 to 05 PCM?
or for swapping the 6.4 in to the earlier truck ?

For swapping the 6.4, would you have to use (could you use) an 03-08 5.7 cam sensor in a VVT engine (is it a bolt on)?
