Looking for affordable Cuda parts

I'd try to accelerate and it would "break away" and act as if the clutch peddle were depressed. It would bang or clunk and the noise seemed to come from the rear.

EDIT: I've been busy, been out of state for a few days, one of my kids totaled her car (she is fine)...... It has just had to wait. Hell I finally just rolled under there in clean clothes saying we can have in out in 20 minutes....... I think we did. Anyway a quick look in and I need gears

Dr Diff is the man, my parts are on the way. He had the SG parts on hand and at half the price of a well known competitor....... I could have bought a whole new unit from Dr Diff (Cass) for what the other guys wanted for the parts. THANKS Cass

Ok so I made some spanners to adjust the backlash etc.

I have the gears and clutches from Cass.

I will be picking up an old truck 8-3/4 to use the axle ends rebuilding the suregrip. I also intend to cut them short and have a buddy machine a hex on the end ao a a 6" cut length axle (opposite the spiles) so I can test a suregrips holding torque

Also have the FoMoCo limited slip additive to wet the clutches

Anything else?

Just in case someone didn't know the ring gear and carrier bolts are LEFT HAND THREAD, someone I know looked surprised as I loosened a bolt laugh2

sawzall making some more tools to work on or test sure grips..... I'm just waiting on a U-joint and a new thrust button but I can rebuild it anytime now then and the U-joint and thrust button should be here by Fri night. Both axle stubs will accept a 1/2" drive breaker bar or torque wrench to test SG's. My welding is improving smile I wouldn't have ground/smoothed the welds but the close tolerance of the holder required a few minor high points be reduced to fit so I made it pretty. I even bought some ARP SG bolts and LH thread taps/thread chasers.

So I recently saw a member of another Mopar board ground the inner section of his carrier bearings to remove them because he said he couldn't get the bearing splitter between the case and bearing.

That's a non issue I used a small bearing splitter to grab the upper lip of the same inner section of the bearing after cutting the "cage" off. I then found a bearing installation tool that fit the carrier and allowed me to push against the carrier and pull the remaining bearing section off.

I cleaned, cleaned and cleaned the unit.

I bought LH 3/8th 24 taps and thread chasers just for this job.....

I temp assembled the case to press the new bearings on.

The carrier bearing for a CLUTCH type sure grip is a Timkin PN 25590. (the race is P/N 25520)

The AZ Duralast has the same P/N, but the box said made in China..... the part said USA. I'll take it

The new sure grip side/spider gears that Dr Diff sells are an up-grade and provide more spline engagement.

up

The thrust button should measure 1.500 when new, if it's worn more than 0.010 replace it

ARP bolts p/n 250-3006 are made for the Mopar clutch type sure grip

Bearing said Chine but is US.jpgSide Gear comparison.jpgthrust button.jpgArp bolts.png

If anyone plans to rebuild (or replace) a sure grip, I highly suggest you call Moparts board member Cass/Dr. Diff for your parts needs.

I have a FSM but found the Mopar Action August 2016 issue to be very informative.

My axle tools worked great too

Lesson's learned, the ARP sure grip bolts contacted the inside of my carrier housing when the supplied washers were used, so I had to completely disassemble the sure grip, re-chase the threads to clean the loctite etc to remove and reinstall the ARP bolts.

There are some seals out there that parts stores will cross as the same as the pinion seal based on the case and seal dimensions but the seals outer lip is larger and it will contact the yokes seal shield.

I made this simple but effective bucket stand to work on it.

GOLDMYN he still has it. He has been gathering some parts and hopes to back to it soon.

I just made a plate that allowed me to mount two 3.5" kicker speakers in my dash. My OEM speaker was spent. Wow I like the difference. It's a snug fit but I made adjustments. The aluminums thickness raised the speakers a bit, and the speaker grille's reinforcement ribs are trimmed slightly to clear the speakers peak. The plate was not CNC'd, did that all by hand.

Someone on ebay sells one for $150, but he used an unsaid speaker with smaller magnets I assume for an easy fit. I know I will be happy with my own work so I went this route instead.

What speakers did you use? Thickness of aluminum plate?

The speakers are Kicker 43DSC3504, I'll have to mic the aluminum (it's about an 1/8th inch). I also pushed the metal below the speaker down a touch . My car also has an Ultimate rides dash pad, so there will be slight variances.

If you look down into it you can see the two speakers. It looks neat/factory installed, just not stock. I might also have some more minor trimming to do.

I was heading to a car show, I asked the wife to go. Later as I saw her getting ready I asked why and was surprised that she was going with me. She didn't want me to take the Cuda because we both new it was a small venue , dirt lot and gravel etc. Ok we will go watch and eat.... (on the way home I say....) Hey babe lets go look at Chargers to see what you want costs....... Ooops
