I am new to the Holley carbs always raced T Quads. I have been working on our restored V code Cuda have it running good now.
I am starting to work on the 340 for my D/S TA. I am going to put QFT billet metering plates on the end Carbs. I need to buy a selection of jets. I have 62's-68's for the center carb, I am thinking 80's-86's for the ends. I don't want to buy a whole bunch of jets that are gonna just sit in the box. I want to be in the ballpark. What do you guys think? Also is there a difference in jets from different companies?

Thanks, Rod

Will the billet metering plates pass tech?

Login to classracer.com. Knowledge peeps there and even a specific stock/super stock tech section. Hint: Don Little is a 6-bbl guru! So is Steve Wann...

I have known Stevie Wann and Chicken Little for decades. I have raced Stock Eliminator on and off since 1973 all with Stick Shifted small blocks. Many time NHRA record holder. I was even in teardown when Cab got bounced for sand blasted heads.

I know why Gene's car flew and that engine would not pass current tech.

I am guessing you would be time and perhaps money ahead if you purchased some carbs from someone who has been there and done that. A lot of good knowledge here but you need to be on Classracer.com also.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Good Luck!

Bill

I thought the hp factor had them in C.

Edit- I just looked it up...... "D" for a stick, "C" for an auto.

3480lbs with driver...... Nominal.
D stick can be as light as 3440.
C auto can be as light as 3360.

Just think Dwayne, you could NEVER get a D/S car to fly with a head as bad as a Pontiac has? Just think what the Mopar head could do?....lol

I am on Classracer. No one has ever been able to make the 340 six pack competitive with a stick very few have made them work with a slush box. Steve Hahn tried in the 70's Farmer is struggling with his McCoy has a F/S but it is slow.
The TA stick combo is a natural E/S car the AAR is a natural F/S. I want to go knock heads with the Z28's current record is 10.27 set in mineshaft air. A few years back my 72 Low compression ran 10.80's in F/S in not so good air.
Buying someone else's Carbs is not the answer. I have loaned people my Thermo Quad and tried theirs and we both slowed down. I expect the Holleys to be the same.
What I was looking for in my post was a general range of jets to get as a starting point. I have collected several carbs but few parts. The BLP jets look like a good way to go just looking for jet sizes.
Thanks, Rod

You're right...... I don't know what I was thinking.
The AAR is 10.37 auto(319hp), 10.61 stick(312hp)........ E and F.

I think the challenge is to get the 6bbl to leave hard with a clutch and a small motor.

If you go w/BLP, use their conversion chart which compares holley jet #'s to get you close then tune from there. I'm not a 6-pack guy so no help there.......... thumbs

Did the 6-pack have a better cam then the 4 barrel? I think the biggest advantage is the hood. What rpm did you get out of the 340, where did it fall off? Picking your brain for my combo. 70 Duster 340 avs. Why would the stick be rated more hp then the auto? Good luck

When I used to run a 440 6-bbl (both my Challenger and Road Runner had 'em at one time) I had home-modified outboard plates to allow using "real" jets. Not sure what a Stocker 340 would want compared to a street/strip 440, but I'd say have 62-68 for the center carb and 76-84 for the outboards. Even that will likely leave you w/ some jets that never get wet... but it should cover you across a pretty wide range of conditions if you'll be traveling around to different tracks.

In addition to Holley jets, I have the COMP MaxJets because they have smaller increments between jet #s and IMO can be better fine-tuned. They're similar in many respects to the BLP jets, too. Both the MaxJets & BLP jets are sold by drilled hole size and use a cross-reference chart to match them as closely as possible to Holley jet #s.

Good luck! Me luv Challengers with T/A hoods! grin

The difference between the 4bbl and 6 Pack is just a tick more compression .004 thinner head gasket. NHRA allows the hood on both combos. The TA hood works. The AAR hood is just lighter.
I routinely ran my 72 340 to 7500 and a few times to 7800 in kill mode. The person to talk to about the AVS combination is Chuck Beach even though he runs an Auto (known him since the 70's when he had a stick in the same car).

Never a problem getting a stick car to leave. 7000rpm, Youngblood clutch, Cal Tracs and Hoosier tires.
