Well gotta give them thumbs up for customer service. Sent it back and got it back in a reasonable amount of time.

Finally got it installed. Its much better! up Started right up and did not have to move the oil pump drive a tooth to set the timing (from the points distributor location)!

Right now they have earned my respect back. We will see how it performs at the track today.

Agree with the point install that said never had a issue with pertronix can't say that about the coils. If points work why not use them other then they are getting harder to find locally

That's good to hear. 440 source sent me a new dist for free after I broke a piece off in mine & I just asked them the availability/price of the new (miniscule) part and Rock Auto sent me a new set of head gaskets ASAP when they were damaged intransit & they didn't request any pics or anything.

Well I don't know about dual points but on this stockish 383 the single points distributor started to break up a little around 4800 rpm - but not too bad. At the track the motor was dead by 5300 rpm. Last night with the Pertronix it pulled smooth and hard to 5500 rpm+ (that's where I shifted). Was at least 0.3 seconds faster with the Pertronix than the stock single points distributor. Maybe just this distributor, but it no work too good.

I went with the Firecore Ready to Run and never looked back. Great tech support.

I have had a few problems with the Petronix I and II kits, haven't tried the III. Finally got a II to work, but I carry points and ballast and coil with me just in case. I am building another car now, not sure what I will go with at this point.

Glad to hear it ran well Markz.
I have ran pertronix in quite a few vehicles over the years with no problems. They were used in work vehicles that got a lot of use everyday. Was better than points. Yup I said points! In the early eighties I was still working on gasoline fueled V8 engines in international tanker trucks. I adjusted/replaced points dozens and dozens of times on 4-5 trucks, then pertronix was a dream come true. Set it one time and forget it. No more dwell changes that happens with points.
The only time I had trouble was on a lift/fork truck. I left the key on by accident without it running and it burns up the modgel. Found out about that the hard way. Other than that it has been a reliable ignition for me. up
