I found a really nice, uncut hood a few years ago. I had it media blasted, cut the underhood bracing to mimic a Max Wedge steel hood car and neighbor Dave shot it for me with DP90 epoxy since he was in between priming panels for his projects. It turned out much better than expected! I have another, larger factory style scoop for the other one and plan on refinishing it as well.

Underside..

I would like to eventually run Dragweek with this car so an open hood scoop was questionable for that.

I went to get gas last night a few miles away and was running it through the gears coming back when it went "bang" at the top of third gear. I thought it was the driveshaft at first, but smelled burning trans. fluid and saw a cloud of white smoke behind me. I pulled over and looked under and found the tailshaft housing had broken in half! I did have 4 adults in it all Wednesday night and an extra 120 lbs. in the trunk so I wonder if the driveshaft might have bottomed at some point and weakened the housing?

I found the culprit. Some way the inner clip on a u-joint cap came off and that cap exited the front yoke. Caused a massive imbalace and slop to where it killed the tailshaft housing. I reached up and grabbed the output shaft to spin it after pulling the housing off and it is visibly bent! Gotta pull the whole thing and tear it down to replace the output shaft! bawling

Shoot man. That sucks. But at least it's just the trans. Could've been worse.

Not expensive to fix, just time consuming.

Yeah. It stinks fixing stuff when you should be playing. You seem to be right on it, that will be fixed in no time.

I checked all the internals and replaced output shaft and tailshaft housing. Clutches and steels looked good as well. It's ready to go back in. May try a different converter...

Member farmboy is letting me try out a smaller converter. Not sure if it will improve anything, but I threw it in to find out.

95% back together..

Slowed down considerably. Just too much stall.

11.65 @ 114 was the best of the night.

It was like driving a manual with the clutch pushed in part way.

Oh well, it was worth trying...

Been a few months since posting. In that time killed a couple of rod bearings in the engine (my fault), tore apart and totally rebuilt/refreshed the engine. Other than the rod bearing issue, the engine looked really nice inside! Putting it all back I had some converter bolt issues so pulled the trans. again and farmboy enlarged the flexplate bolt holes in the converter to the 7/16 thread units.

I also replaced the worn out ET Street Pros and borrowed a wheel/tire combo for the front to see if I like them.

Looking forward to racing some in the upcoming weeks.

1st of 3 fun nostalgia races under our belt.

We did the Wichita Nostalgia Race at KID and entered the '80 and older true street tire class. No drag radials allowed.

After some testing with a setup, we got a handle on it and was able to launch it pretty good! I dialed 12.00 (had to keep same dial all day!) but held quite a bit as the car was running 11.80's with this setup.

On one run I had to bomb the brakes. I Pushed the guy thinking he was going to break out and ran an 11.96 on 12.00 dial! I find out he red lit and I didn't see it but still pretty proud of the time even though I broke out. Didn't matter!

I got a best 1.72 60 ft. time and went rounds until the final. I'm not sure if the track prep went away or if someone put down some water or oil in my lane but using the same technique I'd used all day, the car spun HARD in the final.

I knew the guy that won and it is the second year we went to the tower to pick up checks together. $150 paid for my weekend and we had a good time!
