03 5.7 hemi. Did engine swap. Put car pan on but didn't know I needed to prime oil pump. Got it in car. Cranked a little bit with no spark. Have no oil pressure. Read that I can take the bottom fitting above the oil filter with Alan wrench off and fill it with oil and turn engine by hand backwards. It sucked in a half quart of oil. Cranked again still no pressure. Filled oil filter before installing. Is there another way to prime oil pump or do you think my pump is bad? Was a running engine. Sat a month before cranking for first time

Generally the gerotor oil pumps will self prime. Is it a new or the original pump? When you changed the pan,the pickup needed swapped, any problems there with sealing? How are you measuring the pressure, factory gauges or mechanical hand held? I'd pull the oil filter and crank it to check,or swap the filter.

This may help you with your concern, I recently started the 05 5.7L that I reassembled and had a similar issue.

I reassembled a remanufactured engine [long story] and it sat for about a year. I filled the oil pan, removed the oil filter, plugs and cranked over the engine. I was able to get oil to the filter, reinstalled the filter and continued to crank with the valve covers off. I never got oil to the heads while cranking. I probably cranked for over a minute total before quitting, rechecking oil levels, filter on/off, etc.

So I started it anyway, got oil pressure and all seems well. Fire it up. twocents

FYI - you may want to pull the plugs if you are persistent on getting oil pressure before starting. You'll get higher cranking rpm and less force applied to dry bearings.

Original oil pump. No issues sealing anything. I pulled the factory oil switch and placed a mechanical gauge in. It's not even filling the plastic tube that goes to the gauge. Oil filter is full

We have all but two plugs pulled. I'm not even getting oil to the gauge. Should I still reassemble and fire it up? At this point if I can't get something to work I have to pull the engine and that is not a fun deal with this car. Lol

I'd pop the filter off and see if you are getting oil to it, if so, I'd feel comfortable lighting it off.

I filled pickup tube when engine was upside down. Took about 30 seconds of cranking and boom 60 psi.

Ok. I will try it. I should mention I am using a remote adapter for filter. Filter is full. I pulled the hose off the out side and it was full. I pulled it off the in side and you can tell oil went through but it was not full like the out side

I pulled the oil filter. Just a little stream comes out when I crank for a second. Shouldn't a lot come out?

Is it cranking fast enough? I would leave filter on and pull top plug out of the 2 above the filter pad, then spin it.

My first time with oil filter adapter. Lines were hooked up wrong. I have 67 lbs of pressure now
