Not sure if it's worth $200.00.... got a hole in the block but it still runs. Looking to use it for a mock-up piece and sell what I don't need. It's from an '04 truck IIRC...

Didn't make it over there...maybe this weekend. The seller doesn't seem to have much action on it so maybe I can buy it cheaper... we'll see.

If it's got a hole in the block it's scrap price. About the only desirable part of that engine is the block lol. The early 5.7's were supposed to be fairly beefy in the cylinders. Cast crank, powered metal rods, weak sister pistons, least desirable heads, etc

I've been looking around here for trashed block and now one seems to have any.

I need it for a mock-up engine and will likely use some of the front cover, wiring and whatever else I need and sell the remainder. Don't need any of the FI parts as this will be a carbureted engine.

Depending on my no-budget racing deal I may use the heads if I can get them ported for a reasonable price. I can deal with fixing the dropped seat issue... I would replace all the valve train parts anyway... just need bare castings and the rocker arms and shafts.

I have been talking to my local dodge store about some help with parts if I choose to buy new heads and a block...

I'm still trying to get my SB 383 done and will use that next year in my dirt car... the Gen 3 deal is interesting and I want to see if I can build a motor that will reliably run 7200 rpm's + for 25-40 lap A-mains on a 1/2 mile.

Most yards just scrap broken block engines, seems even if an ear for the alt or whatever is broke off too. I paid 350 for one with a broke timing chain... 500 for another the crank got snapped off in back from a hard front end hit, but rest was perfect, even block still good. Got all kinds of parts basically for free as the heads sell for good money off newer ones. I buy all the cheap ones I can get for spare parts.

Took a look at it today... complete as pulled from an '04 Dakota. Still runs even with the broken rod. Didn't bring it home... giving him a little time to consider my offer. I believe I could sell the alt., power steering pump, oil pan, etc. to make up some of my investment.

Film at 11...

Did they even come in dakotas or was it a swap? I saw someone trying to sell a 4.7 as 5.7 locally a few months back. In a small pic, it did look similar.

No Hemi's were installed in Dakotas from the factory,Durangos yes.Look closely at that engine, look for dual plugs to ID a Hemi.

You're right... just mis-spoke. The Durango that gave up it's broken heart is now a demo car... was sitting right next to the Hemi..duh!

So I was at the local junkyard today looking for a few things for my wife's DD when I came upon another 5.7 core... this one is an '03.

Yeah, yeah I know... loose valve seats, weak rods and suspect crankshafts. It's stuck... the plugs are out so there may be some cylinder rust. But I need a block and can recover much of my investment selling off the intake, alt., a/c compressor, etc.

The heads are still as good flowing than my ported W-2's and I can always play with my die grinder and sandpaper rolls to get a bit more flow.

$200.00...

So I pulled the trigger and told them to yank it out and I'd pick it up in a week or two... no hurry.

Well I got the $100.00 Hemi home today... next stop the junkyard to get #2 home in a couple weeks.

I really have to resist the temptation to start working on these things since my SBM 383 is still waiting it's turn to get done...

Put some cash down today on a 2014 5.7 out of a Challenger R/T non-MDS engine. 18,000 miles... has a rod knock.... runs. This one may turn out to be my race motor...

Going to sell all but the short block so if you need something in a month or two let me know.

That's a good 5.7 to start with....are you keeping the heads?

Yep... don't know exactly what my plan is right now...

I can run a 362 max alum head/iron block at 2300 lbs. or iron heads/block at the same weight w/no ci spec or an open engine, no max ci, all aluminum ok. All single four barrels.

The sbc's running the 362's get around 650hp... the all iron combo's are about the same (maybe a bit less) and the open engines can go up to 800hp+. But you can't hook up all that big power when the track slicks off...

I'm leaning towards running an open engine... maybe around 370+ cubes, use the Eagle heads with a good port job and better rods and pistons. 13/14 - 1 on methanol.

If I run the 362 I'd use the 1st gen heads with the combustion chambers welded up for more compression. No porting allowed with these specs.

My primary engine will be my iron headed 383 with the ported W-2 heads... should see 600-625hp out of it.

The Hemi will be my back-up engine and a learning experience.

What weight do the open engines have to run?

The open is 2400 w/50 lbs. mounted in front of the motor plate (rear)... 6" motor set-back. Must run a 1.250 restrictor plate supplied by the track.

The 362 'spec' engine is 2300 lbs. and 10" set-back. No port/polish in 2018.

The all-iron job is basically an IMCA mod motor... 2300 lbs./10" set-back.

The 370" iron block/alloy head is 2300 lbs. w/10" set-back. Must add 50 lbs. in front of the motor plate.

Overall I'd say the open jobs are the fastest despite the plate.

I have an older (OK real old) chassis and, with my fat a** in the car, I will likely not have to worry about making weight. The cars not a lead sled... just don't have the real new stuff. That's ok with me as I don't have any $$$, either.

I'd say a 370" w/Apache heads set on Kill would make a ton of power. Sounds like a neat class. What kind of chassis? Are these rails?
