Since I found my fuel pressure is dropping pretty low at WOT I need to re-plumb and switch to an electric pump. My setup SHOULD be in the 500 HP neighborhood, so looking for a pump that would be good to 600. I'm planning to run it dead headed since I just plumbed the engine half with stainless hose and anodized fittings made of gold.

I was looking at the Mallory 140 and the Carter 4601HP. Anyone think the Carter is enough? It's only rated for 100 GPH, everyone says they last forever and I have a buddy that has been running one dead headed forever, no problems and super quiet.

I'm open to any other suggestions.

Holley black worked excellent on my old 9.80's car(3350 pounds race weight). Ran deadheaded, lots of street time.
In fact, upgraded to a big fancy system and gained zero.
I was well over 600 horse, probably 650.

Another option...Aeromotive 11203 street rod pump, deadheaded, -8 line. Fed my 800+ hp hemi to run 9.50s at 140 mph at 3800 lbs w/ no trouble. Put a lot of street time on it too.

600 hp requires 300 lbs of fuel per hour which is 50 gallons per hour.

My original plan was actually a Holley Black, but I keep reading about how the Holley pumps are terrible and don't last long. And really prone to leaks. And I know they can be pretty noisy. It seems the one with the most gripes is the Blue though, not the Black. Is there a significant difference in the quality of the two?

I just bought a Carter 4601, figure my deal will make 470 to 500 hp. It should be able to handle what you expect for power, as long as you have a good system.

I'm running a Carter also,My 440 is a bit over 500HP,Deadheaded too.

The volleys (blues at least) are noisy as all get out. I would rather run two Carters, if one won't handle it, which I believe it will anyway.

LOTS of down feedback on Summit about the Holley black pumps. Enough that I decided to buy another Mallory 140, even though I wasn't happy that the price had increased so dramatically since I'd purchased my last one. Not sure if that's because MSD bought Mallory, or if all pumps have gone up a lot since about 10 years ago.

I've use a bunch of different electric pumps over the years on race cars, some no good and some better ones that are real good thumbs
You know you will probably want to make more power later so step up now and buy a good pump now twocents
I use Magnafuel pumps now on all my serious cars, the higher HP motors get the bigger pumps thumbs work
People forget about the amount of pressure on the pump from the weight of the fuel in the line on the launch on cars that have the pump and fuel tank in the rear of the car work It doesn't take more than about two seconds at WOT to drain both fuel bowls shock work
Having 18 lbs. of pressure between the pump and regulator is way better than having 14 lbs. up twocents

I'm running a deadheaded Mallory 140 in a 600hp SB. When I bought it I was running a 430hp SB but figured the extra capacity wouldn't hurt. It's been 8 years now with no issues. Still primes quickly, holds steady pressure, and is quiet compared to the Holley's.

The Mallory 140 was always one of my favorite street/strip, mild bracket race pumps......... But....... Now they're $306.

I suppose if the quality it as good as it was in the past it's probably still worth it.

A Summit coupon would def help take a little of the sting out of it.

One of my customers that does a lot of stroker motor builds and installs uses that Aeromotive pump a lot. I think he said he's installed about 15 of them, only one issue, which was somewhat self inflicted(no prefilter).

Based on that info, I recommended one to someone who wanted to replace their old Holley blue before heading to Drag Week.
Took out the blue, put in the Aeromotive.

I think he said it made it through the first day, started getting really loud, and the pressure was dropping right off.
Put the old Holley blue back on...... Which was still going strong at the end of Drag Week.

Seems like there are those kinds of stories for just about every brand out there I guess.

Most definitely, I've had bad luck with Magnafuel, which the majority of people love, and no issues with my Aeromotive stuff.

There are lemons out there for all brands.

Holley black here with 3/8 line. I have had the Holley black pump on my 63 since 2011 and never a problem. I also had the Holley red pump on it from 2003 to 2011 and it also never had a problem. I have only use Holley pumps all my life and only once had a pump go up on my sons Dart which had the red pump on it and it went bad around 2010 and it had been on his car since 1997. Ron

I have had problems with the Edelbrock Quiet-Flo pumps.
I guess MSD bought out Mallory? Wow the prices doubled!
I have an old Mallory 250 GPH that has been in the car at least 15-years, but back then they were about $250? $458 for a new one is crazy.
