While I am freshening my 727 I am going to buy a new front drum. 3050lbs, 408sb, 727 with brake and low band apply vb. What do you guys in the know suggest? Alum? billet steel? I only want to buy it once so I was leaning towards the billet steel. Thanks

I would only get the alum drum if you were concerned about saving every last gram of rotating weight. It's lighter, but requires more frequent band adjustments and fluid changes.

Sounds like the billet steel drum would be right up your alley.

In almost every application except ALL OUT RACE, I would say steel drum from TCS or other similar supplier. I think they are about 600 bucks with a billit 15 spring piston. I think they are Stronger than the aluminum drums anyway.

Don.

I bought the billet drum from rick at a and a transmission

If in doubt, talk to rick, and he will tell you. He is very friendly, and very knowledgable.

I got an aluminum one and would never get one again.
got to change fluid every 25 runs and if it made .01 difference I would be suprised. I may buy a steel billet for this year.

I spent the extra $ for the aluminum drum with steel outer sleeve. It came with the billet alum piston and I was able to get 6 discs in it.

We are running an A&A Aluminum drum. Very happy with it. We are also running Mobile 1 trans fluid. Changed the fluid after 25-30 passes and the fluid looked almost new.
WE are not using a trans brake though, I don't know if that would make a difference or not.
