I know the trans. fluid topic is a dead horse that gets beaten once in a while. My question is to the guys that have info on running heavy duty tractor trans fluid in a race 727. We broke a drive shaft on the last race of the 08 season and need to tear down for inspection. QUICK D100 has most graciously offered to help. (Thanks Dave) I stock bulk heavy duty tractor trans fluid on my farm. With every thing drained this may be good time to ditch the type F.
480 ci B stroker, coan 5500 converter 3000 lb car. what say you? Thanks in advance guys

I have no idea what the bulk trans fluid is but I
use the type F in my trans, been for years. Why do
you want to ditch the type F, just because you have
all of the bulk.... what is the bulk

I could get the spec. number but it lists the John Deere, Case IH and other tractor powershift trans. applications it is made for. I'd just like to keep the oil inventory less cluttered. A while back a few guys said they were using it and it got me thinking.

It is a 10 wt. hyd fluid. It is a tougher spec. than std. cyl. lift oil. that's about all I
know about it. Mabey the fellows that were using it in their drag cars will show up or some of the oil gurew's will chime in.

A lot of people have reported good experiences with the JD fluid in the Torqueflite. Mostly street/mild competition, I don't remember any reports from dedicated racers.

I don't think that has been said here.

It has only been said that there is better stuff, and there is.

Dextron3/mercon3 FAR exceeds any of the original specs a torqueflite would have had, and is PERFECTLY acceptable in a drag or street car.

Given the choices of fluids at a modern parts store, the correct fluid for a torqueflite is Dextron3/mercon3.

Well Kevin if you want to be the 'test mule' I'll help you out. If things go south with the hydralic fluid I'll rebuild it. Dave

Sort of like spending 20K on a motor, then using cheap pepboys oil in. You can do it, just not me.
