I was given an aluminum fabricated oil pan.It has a large deep sump with a 2 or 3 inch shelf about 3 inches from the bottom of the pan and extending about 2 inches out.I will be using a swinging pick up and was curious if there is anything I should be doing to this pan for oil control.

Looks like an early Charlie's pan. If no internal swinging trap door you need to keep a lot of oil in it. A scrapper is a good idea too. See how much liquid it takes to fill it to the bottom of those accel/decel shelfs. You need that as a minimum plus 4 quarts.

My Milodon pan has a built in windage tray, plus I have a scraper in it. I had problems at the beginning of my racing with the old 8 quart center sump pans. When I hit the brakes at the traps, I would lose oil pressure. As soon as I put a windage tray in it, that problem went away. I always use a windage tray as minimum now, but I really like the crankscraper setup as a back up.

That pan needs a trap door

Who welded the heads? Was that for porting?

Mine has the shelf in the rear, swinging pick up and a trap door. Trap door attaches at the bottom rear of the tie rod tube. I run the level at the top of the tie rod tube. The pan has been run as low as 6 qts (actual level in the pan). Normally 7 qts in the pan. Attatched is the diagram sent to make the diaper.

Looks like a 440 Source copy of the Charlie's pan to me Big Al.

No trap door and IMO it needs one with that long bottom sump.

I have a Charlie's from the early 90's with the trap door and custom made a windage screen out of a old windage tray.

No pics as someone in Russia thought it would be funny to hold my computer ransom and I lost ALL my chit flame

Steve Sanchez@ Total Flow did these heads for Koeffel in the early 80's.
They were done for a fueler car.

DING<DING<DING,,,,,we have a winner! Your right Greg, after the actual owner came out of a coma I was able to find out they were made by 440 Source. When I 1st spoke with Scott, who is great friends with the gent that had to give up his 64,,his Hemi,,and many misc parts he wasn't sure who made them.He gave me the pan and would move the centerlink tube if need be.Here is the mock up,,,,,PERFECT!!!

As always Doug is right there with the info I need.I followed your lead on the "K" and steering plate. Now the oil pan bow

How does the trap door work with a swinging pick up??I had a real nice scraper when I sent the engine out last time to freshen. When we opened it up after 5 years, there was NO scraper. Is it possible to fab something IN the pan so I don't have to have double gaskets on the pan??

The block is coming out in the next few days. Then I can measure some different oil levels and figure out how much oil I need to carry in the pan and fab some oil control.
The header tubes need to be welded and the "k" boxed.I have an old school steering box support. You guys ever see one of these?

Hemi-itis nice steering box brace. Is that made anymore and by who? If not you should trace that out so you can make a second one if you need it.

I made an aluminum box piece that just slid under the steering tube ,not really a box as it only has 2 ends. one that fits up against the back of the pan and the other in front of the tube. It is as wide as the pan. It has a slice bent into it to allow oil to flow in during acceleration but restrict the flow coming out .It also keeps the oil from slamming up in to the crank on launch, at least the oil that is below the tube level.

Mine has a mesh screen that bolts into the pan. It is a Charlies pan.
