I'm getting ready to test fit the rear valance on the wife's 1971 R/T Challenger.

I installed a 1967 B body rear end and had to trim the support brackets on the valance to clear the Dr. Diff offset spring hangers.

It's the car's original valance so I don't anticipate any major fitment issues but I bought the factory type valance hardware kit which consists of 2 screws for the center of the valance,
2 clips and small screws for the top holes of the valance and clips, studs and nuts for the lower holes on the valance.

So do the clips and studs mount to the tabs on the quarter panels facing outward or to the tabs on the valance itself facing inward?
Anyone got pictures?

Thanks. up

The clips and studs mount on the valence so that you can put the nuts on from the back side of the quarter.

You have a major boo boo going on. The area above the taillamps and halfway up the quarter molding and the trunk molding needs to be painted black on an R/T.

Thanks for the info.
Do the clips get in the way of the tabs sitting together flush on the valance and quarters?

The wife's Challenger was an original triple green 340 R/T but is a LONG way from original as you can see.

It was restored back in the 80's by her father who passed away about 11 years ago.
He loved the car but was not a Mopar guy so he did the body and paint the way he wanted, my wife was very young at the time and when it came time to pick a color her dad showed her the paint colors for a 1971 Dodge and she picked the purple.

It's been sitting covered in the back of our garage since he passed as the wife really didn't have the motivation to look at it.
She finally decided it's time to drive it.
She could care less about originality as the car is more sentimental to her and I'm trying to keep it as close to way her dad built is as possible but still be a nice driver.

It had a spotless Arizona body that was given a typical 80's restoration complete with 15x10 Centerlines with incorrect backspacing that caused the rear tires to hang out of the quarters too far which is why I installed the narrower B body rear end. The tires fit under the rear quarters perfectly now.

The body, paint and interior are still in excellent condition but the mechanicals where typical for the 80's, high compression, high lift cam, manual valve body and tall rear gear. the drivetrain was also pretty tired so I've been slowly going through it.

The original 340 was long gone so it now has a fresh mild 440 Six Pack engine.
To make it easier for the wife to drive it I swapped the manual steering to power with new stage 3 box.
I went through the front suspension and swapped it over to front disc brakes.
I swapped the 4.10 rear to a 3.23 sure Grip.
I hope to have it running and driving soon.
