I have acquired two Carter AVS Carburetors. One is a M7 440 1S. The aluminum tag says 440 1S 349 701. The other carburetor has a base stamp number D5 463 SA. I also have a Holley List #3310-3 1947. I believe these fit Mopars. I was hoping to get some help with identifying which cars and engines they fit. I'm new to the list and look forward to the knowledge base that obviously you guys have here. I appreciate your help. Thanks, Ross

Welcome aboard.
4401s is a 68'383 HP automatic. 3310-3 is an aftermarket holley 750 vacuum secondary. Unsure on the other number, please recheck it.

Thanks, Floyd. Do you think anyone would be interested in the carbs or the aluminum tag on one of the Carters? I looked up the Galen books and noticed there is one on Chrysler. I am wondering if it mentions the Sunbeam Tiger.

Galen's books only deal with Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth and not any of Chrysler's orphan brands.
It's a shame Chrysler dropped the Tiger after 1 year, if they could have only shoe horned the 273 in.....

The 4401 and 3310 should be fairly easy sellers.

Thanks for the info. My understanding is the five year Ford engine warranty, the collapsible steering wheel, and the five mile an hour bumper law killed the Tiger. I thought the Barracuda took its place. Oh well, at least they made a few.

Barracuda was well into production by the time sunbeam was bought be Chrysler. Like 3+ years.

5 mph bumper didn't come into place until 1973? Or little later.

I thought they still sold the Sunbeam Alpine untill 1968. Just didn't have the V-8 in them.

The Chrysler small block has the distributor in the rear. The ford has it in the front. The Chrysler distributor in the rear was a major interference issue. Even with the Ford distributor in the front, the firewall had to be beat back to fit the Ford. And the Ford motor is more narrow too and altogether smaller package. And the Ford just barely fit.

I don't think Chrysler was interested in selling cars with a competitor engine. Can you blame them? And Chrysler dealership mechanics would have to learn Ford motors to support any new car warranty.

Now I like Sunbeam Tigers. But put yourself in 1968. That Alpine body is a very dated design in '68. It's a design from 1956 that didn't get built to 1959. IMHO it's design was a little dated in 1959.

Thanks for all the info. It's interesting to read all about it. You're right about the 50's technology. The Tiger can be a handful unless you tweak it a bit with the new modifications that are available today. I agree, why would Chrysler want to warranty a Ford. They did make some good improvements to the Tiger: fresh air vents, soft top cover, unleaded seams, square corners, etc. Fun chatting. Thanks!

Alpines continued after 1968, just not ones that have any appeal.

The Alpine coupes are interesting. The fastback styling gives for a different look. Since they weren't imported to the USA, I've only seen one and of course it was RHD.

It was having to source a motor from Ford that killed the Tiger. Mopar would have had to cast a 318 block with a deck at least 1" shorter to have a chance to fit in the Tiger.
