I'm in the process of fitting some 19 x 11 rear rims on my truck and the stock 8 1/4" rear width looks to be perfect. I have heard that an 8 3/4 from a C-body is the same width and only the spring perches will need to be moved. Does anyone mind sharing the ins/outs of this swap ? Also what year of C-body am I looking for? Its tough to find specs on these trucks such as 8 1/4 rear widths/specs. Thanks in advance. J.Rob

All I can offer is;
From backing plate mount to backing plate mount I got,
56 3/4"s
From outer edge to outer edge of the perches I got,
49"s
This is a '68 C-body 8 3/4" rear axle.

I have mechanical Aptitude.
I can screw up anything.

71 and up (may go back to 67 or 68) "C" body, 74 and up "B" body, and 1/2 ton trucks all share the same axle housing for the same size rear end (8 1/4, 8 3/4, 9 1/4). Car spring pads are on the bottom of the housing because the housing sits above the leaf springs. Truck spring pads (except 1st gen 2wd Dakotas) have the spring pads above the housing because the axle is mounted under the springs.
73 and newer cars used a rubber encased axle to leaf spring pads that you would probably want to change over the the truck pads that mounted directly on the springs. Gene

yes a c-body 8 3/4 housing is 59" flange to flange same as my 74 W100 8 3/4 housing 59"

only differance would be pinion length that may need a drive shaft change when swapping 10 bolt/12 bolt/8 3/4 axles around.

I have a A-body 8 3/4 in my 88 d150 tucking a set of 12" rims 29x15x15 M/Ts in the fenders.

a-body shares the same 43" perch centers and is a bolt in with the axle on top of springs and tubing the bed.

I am installing a E-body 8 3/4 housing 56.5 housing to tuck some 10" rims with a 275/60/15 in the fenders on my 85 stepside.
that's lowered/tubed.

I do have a 9 1/4 with 10" rims 3.75 backspace 30x9.50x15 mud tire on there now with no rubbing the fenders with frame sitting on axle. very tight but not touching.

Only the late B body wagon axle is the same width, sedan/coupe is narrower.
