Need a new battery for my original 78 GT, group 24. How good are the repro batteries? Are they worth the $, and who sells them?

In my opinion not worth the price they want for one. Not unless you have a show car, then maybe. I bought one once and it lasted me 3 years. Save yourself about a $100 bucks and buy a good Optima battery. My 2 cents.

I have bought plain black late model batteries and removed the decals and put a period correct mopar sticker on them before.

Try and get your repro battery in an AGM design, not the typical lead plate design that's shipped dry, where you have to add acid to activate it, that's where your problems start

The longest lasting AGM I had lasted 12 years before giving up the ghost, no trickle charging, nothing needed, could sit for months...the acid/plate batteries on the other hand, you were lucky if they lasted anywhere from 1 yr to 4 yrs max, so spend the extra money and step up to an AGM design, if you need a trickle charger for it, they use their own special design of charger, don't use a conventional unit

Bill the Antique battery place in Youngstown has a 4 year pro rated warranty.Supposedl they make batterys for stuff from the 1900s to date.They are pricey but supposedly good quality.Rocky

Turbostar is not producing the repro AGM batteries yet. They told me SUPPOSELLY by July this year ( that was last year ).

Restorationbattery.com has AGM formatted Mopar batteries, Antique Batteries.com are the standard lead/acid filled batteries

Turbostar went out of business and was supposedly being picked up by one of the other repro mfg's last I heard, they did have a good product however, perhaps member Fred Gilmore might chime in, as he was selling their line IIRC

They are CRAP, Don't waste your time and money! Buy a flat top Exide Group 24 battery and put a topper on it. The best way to go.

I have to agree with RalphsRapidTrnst. The one I bought was the sealed type with the fake yellow caps. Did not have to add any acid to it. Paid around $250 bucks about 6 years back. It only lasted 3 years then it was shot. So again I say don't waste the money for one unless its going into a showcar.

Well, it is a survivor one-owner GT, loaded, and original everything except LB system.

Finally put together a functional battery using one of the new, unused cases made with original molds for the Mopar Group 24 batteries from the 1969/70 era... Used it for the first time over the weekend... FANTASTIC! Thanks Dave C. for the assembly mod-work!

You have 3 types to choose from, lead/acid type that you fill, lead/acid sealed, and the AMG style

the lead/acid and l/a sealed will last 2-4 yrs on average, most of the AGM's will last 7-10 yrs on avg...you get what you pay for, just like anything else in life

Where did you get an unused case?

These battery cases were made by the original vendor by NHOA member Dave Jones and sold through the National Hemi Owners Association. The intent was to have members use their local battery shops to assemble working batteries out of them, but most local battery builders went out of business around the same time...

I picked up an unused 1 or 2 year old AGM style battery for my Charger off craigslist for 100 bucks about 4 years ago.

Knock on wood..... it still performs like the day I put it into service.

From what I understand one benefit to the AGM in the old style case is you can replace the internal battery and keep the case.
I for one wouldn't mind hearing more about this...

Two batteries since 1992,one lead acid,and this one,lead acid sealed and it is going on 13 yrs old,no trickle charger,just run about 1/2 hr every few month through the winter..
