Doesn't look anything like a 727 or 904. Body bolts to the bell.

It's an iron Powerflite 2-speed from the fifties.

Yup, looks like am air cooled powerflight 2 speed, you'll need an adapter plate to put anything else on that motor. You will use the same adapter that the chrysler 331/354/392 hemis use for whatever transmission you want to put on it.
If you decide to use the powerflight, its got ratios of 1.72 and 1.00. You can add take offs to run lines up to a trans cooler (i would) the torque converter has fins on it that help cool it as well. Thats why the bellhousing has those mesh covers over the openings.
1956 315 hemi? a 57 325 hemi would likely have a torqueflight on it.

I'm in the process of taking this apart right now, how the heck does the torque convertor un-bolt? I have the trans separated from the engine but don't see any kind of a flex plate or flywheel for un-bolting it from the crank. Does it have to come out with the crankshaft? I'm not going to use the trans, is there any market for them? The engine is a '55 270 Hemi. I plan on it ending up in my '54 Flat fender Powerwagon.

The converter has eight studs that go through unthreaded holes in the crank flange with nuts on the front of the flange.

Just to be clear, there is no flexplate, just the studs poking out the nose of the converter thru the crank. You can kinda see it in the pic at Allpar http://www.allpar.com/mopar/powerflite.html

Okay, I see them. Looks like there's not much room to get the nuts off, how hard are they to remove?

Thanks everyone. Looks like I know what I'll be doing tomorrow. Exercising your vocabulary of curse words no doubt.

Luck finally came my way, once I broke the nuts loose they all came out with my fingers and believe it or not no curse words were flying around my garage. Even I can't believe that one. The Powerwagon is a stick but I'm going to attempt to adapt it to an '87 Powerwagon auto trans. I've been told the adapters for the 331 & 354 Hemi will fit this 270 Hemi. Skicker, I learned all my bad language from you! Ha, Ha.
