A while back I disassembled the steering column from my 69 Dart to restore it. I am in the process of reassembling it and have a question. I have these two square head bolts/nuts that came out of the upper collar and I don't recall what they are for. I know the bolts go through the two holes that have the slots (that capture the square heads to keep them from turning) from the back side of the collar. But I have all of the column parts accounted for and it doesn't look like these bolts held anything in place. The column is a floor shift column so I'm wondering if they are possibly used on column shift columns. If not, what are they for?

This is a floor shift column out of a '69 RR - probably similar. You can see how one is holding the plate. The other is obviously under the turn signal switch. If I recall they secure the bottom collar.

The square head of the 2 bolts actually slip into slots in the tube below it.

Once tightened down they retain the collar to the tube ( not seen once everything is tightened down )
