Hi guys I have a 2005 300C. I noticed a misfire going down the highway at about 55 MPH. Stopped to get gas took off and car studdered alot. Made it home fine. Next day made a 30 mile drive no issues. No check engine light yet. Went back home and car misfired down the highway very badly pulled over took off again barely got going so many misfires happening. check engine light came on along with ESP BAS. What the heck is that. Made it home in a limp mode I guess. Check engine codes are
P0300-Random misfire detected
P0016-Crankshaft Position-Camshaft PositionCorrelation-Bank 1 sensor A
P0339-Crankshaft Position SensorA circuit Intermittent

I changed out all spark plugs today and disconnected battery to get engine light off. . Took car for a ride and misfire happened again. No engine light yet but am sure it will pop back on. I was thinking on looking into changing both crank and cam sensors next . Car has 140,000 miles. I hate to take it in and get raped. I like doing things myself when ever I can to save cash. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

also wanted to add that it seems like it only misfires when car warms up all the way.

Most likely it's the crankshaft position sensor. I've heard it can be several different things, but the Crank sensor is a likely culprit...

Just to clarify, was it actually backfiring? Or was there multiple momentary losses of power? The condition your describing sounds like 2 things. Yes, a crank sensor. Perhaps though, it threw a can code because the timing chain is about to $hit the bed as well.

No backfires. Just skips of power loss. I changed the cam sensor and test drove it. Seems fine now. But I will have to see what happens yet. You know how these things go.

Same thing happened to my 05 Magnum RT, replaced the crank sensor and all fixed. Believe it's on the rear passenger side of block, you have to take the starter off to get to it

Correct- I had an 05 neon with the same symptoms, crank sensor resolved the issue.

I agree. It is a somewhat easy fix and The part is fairly inexpensive. If I remember correctly it was $25 Canadian from RockAuto so much cheaper for you guys. The starter needs to be partially removed to put it on. Best thing to do is start with the cheapest fix first but looking at the DTC, it seems probable that it is the crankshaft position sensor.

Changed the cam sensor and it did not help. Went ahead and changed out the crank sensor. All is well now no codes. Car drives normal again. Thanks for everyones input.
