I just picked up a 2012 Rt and ordered a diablo intune I2 tuner. Along with cold air kit, Moe's 87mm throttle body,180* stat and headers. I am looking for some basic advice in using the tuner. What shift rpm, throttle percentage and that kind of thing. I have used a hypertech tuner on my old 2003 hemi but this is my first experience with diablo.

Stumpy, none of that sh1t works, I thought you knew that? What is that like 3 grand for all of it? Will it amount to 15hp? The hot-air kit will just take it away and fill your motor with dirt for good measure.

The 5.7 from the Factory is as perfectly tuned as it comes. In '03 when Hot Rod went through the new engine with a fine-tooth comb it was pointed out the factory manifolds flow within 2% of a set of headers.

If you really must have headers, 6.1 factory headers come up all the time on Craigs List from some Meathead duped by some header advertising. Usually $100 can get them and they won't leak like that aftermarket crap.

The rest of your laundry list, well pick one at a time and just Google "Problems with ___________" and see what comes up, I don't have time waste on it, seen enough of it already.

It seems that the guys on the Ram forums disagree and have the et numbers to back it up. I have $1200 into the upgrades and when I used basically the same stuff on my 2003 Hemi I picked up over a half second in the 1/4. I am going to use the goodies and see what the et slips say. But I still would like some answers on the basics of using the Intune.

On an 03, Id leave it alone. Might have the heads looked into, make sure the seats are all happy before ya beat on it. Might make sure the valve springs are upgraded, and I might make sure the exhaust manifolds are good, and not leaking from broken bolts.

The Diablo works great on the newer stuff, 13-17, they get in there and adjust fuel trims, timing, etc, etc, and can gain some serious HP and Tq, but unless your planning on a supercharger, or some power adder and need the PCM unlocked for a proper tune, the Diablo isn't worth the cost just as a hand held downloaded pre tune.

So.... I had rather a poor experience with diablo. The intune put my 2005 Ram into limp mode. Ended up buying a Drewtech Mongoose and subscribing to TechAuthority for the weekend to reflash and get it back into service. Due to the mods I had also invested in, decided to try an upgrade to the Trinity. Result - ABS light, and just took it to the dealer to fix. Lost the stomach for it after that. I ran the Superchips canned tunes without any issue whatsoever for years prior. YMMV, but I would find a shop that is familiar with the programmers to help you, at least your first go round on the truck (even if you have used the units before on other cars). I never had much luck finding one in Phoenix area, but Texas might be better....

Long tube headers help a lot, it is not just about flow as the tuning resonance is way more powerfull but will not show up on a flow bench. There was an article where they tested the horrible stock 273 exhaust on a 300hp crate 360 and then tested the much higher flowing priced like gold 340 "HP" manifolds and you had to squint at the chart to see 5 HP difference but long tube headers that didn't flow much better than the 340 manifolds made 25 more HP. All that said I hate the sound of headers and how they rust out and leak and don't fit so I usually end up with manifolds but I know full well I am giving up significan't power.

Wow, what a bitter person.
Headers don't make power.....Crikey, How many times do we have to hear people tell this lie?
The cold air kits do work IF they draw air from outside the engine bay. I have 282,000 miles on a 2007 Ram that has had a FRAM kit. It runs clean and is still strong. The filter is an oiled K & N that I also hear people complain about but the engine keeps on running.
I do agree though that some of the electronic tuning is not cost effective. The amount of money spent to gain 11 HP to the tire is steep. The traditional methods still work though: Less restriction of the incoming air and of the outgoing exhaust.

He can write you a custom tune for your late model hemi. Way better than any chip or box

He's even in Texas and loves tuning in person

I just hate it when I spend all this money and just go faster. What a waste. rolleyes

I had a Diablo inTune with a custom tune along with headers CAI 3" exhaust on my 2014 GMC Sierra 6.2. The difference was night and day from the stock truck. well worth the money IMO.

I currently have a 2016 Charger Scat Pack with the 392 Hemi. I have a custom tune using the Diablo Trinity tuner. I also have the 180* t-stat and just an axle back exhaust. The custom tune is from Hemifever tuning. They do All late model Mopars including the Rams. I gained 25hp and 25tq and you can Definitely feel it. The biggest difference is the removal of Torque Management in the motor and trans. The 180* stat doesn't add power but keeps the motor from pulling timing due to spark knock when it gets hot. The CAI adds about 5 hp and the ported 87mm throttle body adds 8-10 according to Hemifever. I plan on doing both of these mods as money allows.

The Diablo tuners work good after you get them fully updated. The update process can be a PITA but once it's done you won't have any issues.
