Hello, im working on a 94 5.2 mag for my 87 d100 turbo build im in the process of rebuilding the mag engine.
Question is , I have a complete 318 la engine kit that I never used ,Just a basic kit gaskets, rings, bearings, oil pump, freeze plugs, etc ...will the la kit work in the mag engine ? or do i need a mag engine kit? also im going to use the la timing cover and acc as well .
Thanks

there are a couple of gaskets I know are different. no idea on rings and bearings.
some of it depends.
Are you going with the LA front end?
the oil pan won't work and the gasket ends are wrong.

the 318 oil pan won't work.
the 5.2 uses the 5.9/ 360 pan.

You have to use the gasket for the pan you are using.
That is, if you use the mag pan, use mag gaskets.
assuming you can use a truck pan.
I mean I know you are putting it in a truck, I just don't know about that truck. I only do cars.

If you use a 360 pan, because you need to shift the sump, then you use the la gaskets for a 360. The end seals are different.
If you use the mag gasket on the la pan, the gaskets have a gap.
The la gaskets are too thick to fit on the mag pan.

I believe the ring package changed to narrower rings somewhere in there. So a generic LA ring probably won't work on a Mag piston.

RR.

Head gaskets can be the same. Beware if using magnum gaskets in an LA, they may not have head oiling holes in them. La specific head gaskets are a non issue--I'm running fel pro 1008s on my magnum block, magnum eddy head motor.

Water pumps are different and use different gaskets.

Magnum thermostats are smaller, different gasket.

Most everything else is the same.
