I am getting ready to order a pushrod checker. I see they come in different ranges. This is for a Lowdeck big block with B1 heads and a roller cam.

What length should I get???

Jesel has the best one I have ever used. I didn't like the Comp one. The way the threads are made, and no provision for a lock nut to keep those 3 threads per inch moving as little LOL. The Jesel unit is a 3-4 peice unit that can range from a lawn-mower to a Hemi. It came free with a purchase of those Cheap rocker kits

You want one with a range of 8.575" long. That's the stock lo deck pushrod length for 383 and 400s.

If you want to do it on the cheep use a collapsable radio antenna, insert it ,extend it out, mark it with a sharpie, take it out and measure it. It will be the same as a boughten one.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I have the Comp Cams one. As said, there is no lock nut to set length but I just tape it. Good for 383/400 length needed as this is what I used it for. Just

Take a stock pushrod, cut about 1.5" out of the middle, tap both ends with a 1/4-28 tap use a 2.5" lenght of 1/4-28 all-thread & two nuts.....You now have a pushrod checker...

I prefer to use a ball/ball type rod for that measurment as it's pretty easy to hold it centered on the adjuster ball for the measurment & you need to measure the length from the bottom of the cup to the ball tip of the pushrod...

what they want to know is the effective length. you can use a ball/cup PR then drop a 5/16 steel ball in the cup measure the length with the ball in the cup then subtract .313 from that measurment to get the effective lenght.
