Anyone come up with a better rod than the stock one to upgrade without rebalancing and all? I just had two more 5.7s come in with broken rods and was wondering if there is a direct drop in upgrade over the stock powder metal crap.

I would check with Dave Weber at Modern Muscle- they offer drop in rods and piston packages, possibly they would sell the rods separately.

Not sure if its the correct weight, but definitely stronger than stock

The SCAT from CNC looks like it could be just the ticket, I sent them a message to see about the weight, keeping my fingers crossed, I could sell a ton of those.

Modern Muscle Extreme sells Molnar rods that are built to match stock weights.

There's your clue for the day.

I have tried deciphering what they are doing, seems to get a true "drop in" you have to buy rods and pistons, the rods are heavier and the pistons are lighter so it comes out right as far as I can tell and the rod piston combo is waaay too much money for upgrading stock engines to everyday customers. Not a bad price if your looking to upgrade to handle more power though but the stock rods can't handle stock power. An e-mail to them has not been returned yet...

The SCATS are heavier and would need rebalanced

I just tore apart an eagle 5.7 and the rod is slightly different and since I have never seen or heard of an eagle kicking a rod out I suspect it may have been improved a little although the point where they break looks the same so I am not sure.

I read they are stronger, have a set in my 04 hemi, but used them because I had them from a low mileage engine.

A possible option is ENGINETECH ECR112N, says they are forged and oe weight. However they show as out of stock when I checked today.

that one is just a reman stock rod acording to the description on fleabay. Technically I think the powdered metal is a type of forging process.

I may have spoken too soon on the later eagle rods, just had one towed in the shop with a busted rod just like the older ones, this one is a 2011 with 105,000.

I've got a 2010 5.7, same motor as yours. Runs high 10s, low 11s in a 4000 lb Jeep. Stone stock motor with boost. Keep the rpm down and it'll be fine. I shift mine at 6000ish, rev limiter at 6100.

It's sad really. It has less than 20,000 and I can't wait to get my hands in it. My wife says wait for the warranty to be done with. I'm having a rough time with that. Those are great #s. I think your Jeep is wicked!!

I just ordered the Scat rods from CNC-Motorsports. I will weigh them when they get here and report back with what I have to do...

The connecting rods were drop shipped directly from Scat.
They weigh 695.32 grams, average across all 8 rods.
Heaviest to lightest rods have a 0.80 gram difference.

Although no where near the stock 5.7 Hemi rod average of 597. grams, or the 6.1 Hemi rod average of 653. grams, these will work nicely for my build once all my parts are weighed out and matched to the overall stock weights...
