My 2006 Ram 3500 single wheel 4WD has a little over 130,000 miles on it now and it is still stock.
I've heard that the newer computer tuner boxes for theses trucks can help on the mileage as well as the power, I drive it empty most of the time, probably 97 to 99 % of the time. I do have a 24 Ft pace enclosed race car trailer loaded going to the races that weighs right at 8600 lbs. on both axles and it adds around 600 lbs. onto the rear axle on the truck, it also removes, shifts, about 300 lbs. from the front axles shock shruggy
I have done a little searching on Summits web site and see several different brands and types of tuner boxes, my question is for those that are using them which ones do you like and which ones don't you like? help
I don't get on this forum very often so please add your comments to help me on this thumbs
Thanks in advance bow

Smarty jr and smarty sr are ok. I will be selling my smarty jr and going with EFI live though. The Jr supposedly adds up to 100 hp. It's definitely making more but I don't know about 100. What's nice about smarty is that it will correct your speedo too.

My truck was bought in Oregon in July of 2006 so it is considered a border state truck to CA, but I don't really know what that means confused Most of the dodge CTD 4 WHD trucks around here have the exhaust changed and big wheels and tires, mine doesn't. I am planning on changing the tires to the biggest size I can fit on the stock wheels, probably 295x65x17 so being able to correct the speedometer would be nice thumbs
I have seen Bully Dog, Edge, Accel and several others brands out there with different features shruggy I'm not looking to hop it up a bunch, I'm mainly after improving the fuel mileage when empty in town and out on the road help

That's true too. I don't think I gained MPGs. I have to drive like an annoying grandpa to get the overhead lie meter to show 20+, and even then hand calcs show I'm actually at about 17. But, at 8,000 lbs empty, small lift, 4x4 drivetrain, and 35" mud tires on 20" wheels that weigh at least 70, if not 80 lbs; I'm not unhappy. If I cared about mileage, I'd buy a Prius.

J, if I could afford a new one I might think about it. I haven't heard that they get better mileage than mine does confused
I have heard form more than one friend and fellow racers that the 2007 and newer CTD trucks get horrible mileage compared to the older 5.9 like mine work

Cab, for the wheels get the 2015 3500 wheels, I got a set of brand new take offs LT275 / 70x18 32-1/2 tall for $700 wheels tires and caps and they are taller then my 06 wheels( about 5 mph off at 60 now). I talked to a guy on another post, he said the efi gave him mpg in the mid to low 20s and a lot more power, I think six levels, 5 or 6 you'll need a better trans. Tremendous hp and torque, like close to a 1000. But if you keep the foot out of it it gets good millage. I'll try to find his posting and get back to ya

With the newer 6.7s and the DEF, I think mileage dropped horribly. Have also heard that by 2013 or so, improvements were made and mileage has returned

70cuda383 who's EFI tuning are you going to use? If this is your first time using EFI I think you will be amazed at how much smoother the power is compared to smarty. Don't get me wrong I liked the smarty JR I had on my 09 6.7, but it drove so much better with the 500 HP EFI tune I had.

Cab if you really want to try running a tune on your truck, I recommend you call around and ask all the Different EFI tuners there recommendations.
I have not ran any of there tunes but I have heard they are very good at EFI tuning and they are pretty close to your state.

I have H&S XRT pro on my 2010 4x4 6.7 cummins and with winter fuel and my 35 inch tall tires I have gotten right around 19 MPG. also that is on the max performance tune. But I don't tow heavy with that tune.

The 2013 pickups have DEF. 2007-2012 pickups don't have DEF and their milage is worse because they use lean nox traps for nox reduction, which require regeneration frequently (in addition to the DPF).

Milage typically improves with DEF systems.

I have kept track of every tank of fuel I've put in this truck, it averages around 14.5 MPG around town and from 20.0 to 21.5 out on the long road trips empty, depending on who's driving whistling My wife gets better fuel mileage than I do, I can't understand that whistling I keep yelling at her to go faster devil shruggy realcrazy grin

I went with Edge as I didn't have gauges. If you already have gauges, there are better choices.
