Had a few issues assembling the 511 yesterday. First, the stamped chain cover from 440sourse sucks. Looks like it was stamped wrong as the crank snout opening was to the left of center.Had to drill the pin locating holes in the pan much larger. Loosen all the bolts and I think it self centered as I installed the damper. Looked ok when I was done.Hope it don't leak. The timing indicator from 440 also was a joke. Not even close to TDC, off by 4* and best I could do adjusting was still 2* off. One other thing is the distributor hits the head and I can not install it without grinding some aluminum off the head. Would that be the cure or do I need a distributor that will fit with the victor heads? Thanks

We had to grind the head to fit an MSD distributor. I can post pics if needed.

I had to grind ALOT off my Eddy head to clear the Pertronix billet distributor.

I will always send stuff back before I try to make it fit. These companies need to learn parts that don't fit are unacceptable and they need to tighten down on their manufacturer.

As far as the distributor, on my lowdeck with Victor heads, it's super close so I'm surprised they haven't made a casting change yet.

Had to grind on my Stage VI's back in the day even with the MSD Pro Billet distributer.

There is a off set dist for those engines...
I forget who makes it.. it has a belt that
turn the second shaft(a shaft up from the
engine to a cogged belt to a second shaft
that is the dist)
wave

How about indexing the dist over 1 wire?

My understanding is the dist housing hits the head..
not the vac pot so indexing wouldnt change it.. most
of the guys clearance the head or go with the off set
dist
EDIT
Also Dave.. have your valve covers on also to
make sure they clear.. I heard some had to re-
work that corner of the covers... when I mocked
up my mega block with B1 m/c heads the dist was
hitting.. I didnt have V/Cs at that time but I
think they would have crashed.. thats why I was
looking at the off set dist
wave

yes, pertronix billet dist. is what I have also. it wont even come close to lining up with the oil pump shaft. I bought the dist litely used from a member here, so looks like I will have to grind the head to clearance.

Once you get the dist in you may have to grind on the valve cover also,What valve covers do you have?I had to grind mine to clear the rocker in that corner.

I ordered some speedmaster covers in carbon fiber from Jegs about 5 wks ago. Don't have them yet. Maybe I should wait for the covers, if they need clearancing as well I might just look for a MSD dist.

I have the same dist but like I said the inside of the v cover hit the rocker on the sealing lip I had to grind back but I still have to pull the dist cap to pull the v cover.

RB engine/ Victor heads- The msd pro billet clears the heads fine, but I needed to clearance the value cover rail as can be seen in the pics. I wish there was room to run a cap adapt with the larger cap but that's never going to happen!
