The factory has painted them black for decades. Boring

With aluminum heads, intake etc it looks good, but if it's all black then as mentioned, boring.

My boring is engine is all black. Black is beautiful and worry free. Like everything else the purpose of the build dictates choices.

I thought black absorbed heat & white reflected it... Am I turned around on that? Tillotson roofing (a local co) sprays industrial sheetmetal roofs white to reflect the heat Black is good at radiating heat actually.. I had a friend years ago who worked at Alpine (the car audio company) and they did tests with different colors for amplifiers and black was the best at shedding heat (from the aluminum finned body) even if silver, white etc might have looked cooler to sell in cases, black worked the best.

Black is a great color to paint engines if you aren't very good at assembling them without having them drool oil LOL. Point is, sometimes it's a PITA to find an oil leak on a black engine. At that point the leak dye is your best friend.

BUT if I had a car that was a color that clashed with orange then I would look.

If you want to be able to find and fix leaks, paint it another color. If you don't care about small leaks and don't want them to be noticeable, then paint it black.

Black heads and block, black headers, black pulleys, natural aluminum intake, radiator, steering parts, black rubber and stainless steel braid hoses with steel ends, chrome pieces here and there. IMO, I prefer only having a few colors in the engine bay. It tends to clean it up and simplify it rather than looking like a carnival of colors.

I think that the best color for an engine is to paint it industrial gray, because you can better spot leaks of all kinds against a gray background and white is just too much to keep clean, but whatever blows your dress up!!

Pete do you have a recommended brand/part # for industrial grey. A good company like Rustoleum or similar. VHT and Duplicolor do a gray engine paint (Ford had used gray from the factory I believe) A buddy in Oz did a grey on a tractor engine from memory, it was just some general industrial sort of engine? paint I think. (been a while)
