newly fabbed chassis and suspension, circa 2005 or so. body sits approximately 44" tall at windshield now. local car show in 2006. lots of small items such as 90* underdash mount master cylinder and pedal assembly, fabbed tilt/tele column with quick disconnect steering wheel, and roll cage fab from 06 until now. yes, a 40+ year project, but still staying very close to the original vision. second pic is showing needed replacement lower body section[s] to cover chassis, but at that time, just made from cardboard, then spray bomb flat black. those pieces are not fabbed as of yet.

thanks guys. i have pics scattered around two "sticks", plus a ton on regular "photos"[remember those ? ]. i'm just now sorting stuff out, and i "plan" to scan what i have, find the ones on the sticks, plus take several more. IF things calm down in my life a little in the next year as i hope they will, i'm going to try to get "back in the saddle" again on this. i'm fortunate to have a very close friend that is always badgering me, and if he keeps it up, progress can be made. when i get going, stuff will be out of order, but should be easy to figure out what has been done.

Amazing how you found a tail light so close a fit.
Great project, keep the pics coming those will be sunken into the body with pockets i have already made patterns for. they will be lit by LED boards i have sketched out, but not made yet. the headlights are of unknown origin, although i suspect to be GM items. my plan for those is to convert to either LED's, or a standard 9007 [i think that is the number] bulb found in caravan's. i already have that setup carved out to fit the stock reflectors, but i haven't cut on the reflectors yet. the lights will also incorporate LED running lights and turn signals. the grill shell shown will not be used because it is in very good condition, WAY too good to cut up, and my plans are for a slightly reduced height, plus a little "jay leno chin" design with a "speed bump roller" at the very bottom that will raise the chassis by rolling over the encountered obstacle. i will be using a glass shell to cut up for that setup. originally, i planned a straight axle front suspension, but my aforementioned buddy talked me into an independent setup. so, after choking on the price at the time of $2800+ for a hub-to-hub custom deal, i took 3 1/2 years to study suspension design and theory. then, i looked at many offerings of the kits on the market at that time which are all based on the M2 suspension. i looked at the material specs and the geometry, then did a bunch of math to figure out bump steer, camber gain, anti-dive for the brakes, plus other design parameters, then sketched out a full size pivot point setup of the rack inner and outer tie rods and the upper and lower control arms on a sheet of 1/4" paneling. it seemed to be going to work as planned, so parts and fixtures were made to order. i purposely made the control arms from square tubing just to give it a more "industrial" appearance, plus it was easier to make the fixturing. the spindles are heavily modified diplomat cop car items, changed from rear steer to front steer. this required different steering arms to be made to keep the ackerman geometry correct as well as to eliminate bump steer. the caliper adapters are using GM full size [impala] pin calipers because there is a better selection of pad material, plus there are a couple of aluminum calipers available to choose from. and if i'm away from home and need parts, there should be an easier time obtaining them because local dirt track guys run this stuff country wide. when it was all said and done, i have virtually no bump to speak of through the entire range of travel, plus a very good camber curve. [i have the specs down someplace, but will have to remember where i put 'em !] i made checking "plates" to make sure this was working as planned, and i have pics of those as well as the fixtures i made for the control arms. i can duplicate everything in the front suspension if i have to if damage occurs. the cross member is formed from multiple pieces of 3/16" plate, plus is welded inside and out with larger than usual lower pivot reinforcing slugs that are found in all the kits on the market. when i was doing this, i became well acquainted with bill riley who makes the kits for coil over A & B bodies. he understood what i was doing, and although i would not be buying anything from him, was not afraid to offer advice. bill is a SUPER stand up guy, so if you are contemplating a coil over set up, please consider his kit to buy ! as a machinist by trade [42+ years and now retired], an having severe health problems to deal with that was diagnosed in 2000 at the mayo clinic in rochester, minnesota, i must fabricate what i can because money is rather tight. no matter how bad i got it, there is somebody out there that is way worse off than me, so no sympathy is needed. it just takes me a lot longer to accomplish. this story will continue !.....

You have a sweet project going there. Keep the pictures and progress coming . I bought a hump back about 45 years ago for $15 bucks. Borrowed the farmers tractor to tow it about 10 miles home. At the time all I wanted was the tube front axle. The body had a lot of rust for then but now it would be a prize to find. The body is long gone but I think I still have the front tube axle and springs stored somewhere.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead
