I think it is awesome myself, the consoles look really cheap to me.

Extra bonus if the car also has the extra cost bench seat.

I'm with you on this one Barry. I love my flip down armrest too.

My AAR does not have the rallye cluster. Auto w/console, fast ratio PS, PDB. I believe that MOST AAR's (& probably T/A's for that matter) were indeed dealer-ordered cars. To keep costs down, I would believe dealers ordered them with few options. I wonder how many AAR's & T/A's were power window cars? Now THAT would be neat! How about rear defrost & AM/FM stereo? How about sunroof-equipped T/A's? Definitely no Cudas/Barracudas in 1970 with sunroofs, or any year besides 1972 for that matter either.

Remember the 1978 Super Coupe Aspens & Volares? MOST of those were dealer-ordered cars as well.

The vast majority were sales bank cars - factory orders.

Unless one can account for every vehicle built or altered on or off the line, that's akin to saying no 72's were built with 6 packs, or 68 Chargers made with sunroofs...

I've always wondered why that was.
Challenger T/As were not R/Ts so rally dashes were optional on them also.
AARs and T/As usually didn't get built with many options, so it is common to see them without rally dashes.

70 'Cudas (AARS too) got road lamps as standard equipment.

Is that true? Would it still be coded L34 on the fender tag, or no if it is standard on AAR ( part of A53 package?)

The Shaker was an option except the Hemi Cuda for four barrel E Bodies. Why did DODGE offer another performance hood that was not offered on a Plymouth, a TA Hood on a Challenger for almost a year Starting in the spring of 1970 and ending in the fall of 1971.

True, but how many cars really got built with a N-94 hood? Twenty?

N94 hoods on Challengers were cancelled fairly early in the '71 model year.

It was still offered by Dodge. There were likely as many Challengers that were built that received N94 option that were not Trans Am Challengers as 1970 Hemi Challenger Convertibles built. The poor sales of the N94 option made them realize that they just did not need two functional hoods. The better hood for access to the motor is the N94 TA Hood. Doing any kind of work at the drag strip with a shaker hood on the motor is a pain in the a##. It might of been since the N96 for the Challenger in 1970 had stopped and this hood was a back up in case things did not work. It cost Dodge a lot of money to come up with tooling for the breather system on non Trans Am Challengers with different motors. You could also ask question on why did Plymouth go to the four head light system on a Barracuda in 1971 to match a Dodge lighting system. Why do Cudas have road lamps and Challenger do not. We will never know all the answers to these question because most of the designers are long gone.

I think this thread is getting a little fussy.

While Chrysler was not the decentralized company that GM was, there were some independence between Plymouth and Dodge. That's why one had the Barracuda, the other a Charger, etc. and, most famously, Plymouth had a Road Runner and Dodge began crying for a similar model.

I reckon when it came to the E-bodies, both companies' respective product development departments determined the available equipment and what was standard and what was optional. They also had base price points to meet, which could explain something like road lights being standard for 'Cuda (at least for '70) but gauges were optional, unlike the Challenger R/T (there's not many cars that had gauges standard, FWIW).

What I think is strange is why Dodge kept the 340 away from the R/T line, unlike the 'Cuda, but it may have to do with the idea that R/Ts had been synonymous with big-blocks up to that point; of course, in '71, the 340 was available for both the base Challenger and R/T.

Challengers had quad headlights.

The road lamps were no longer standard for the 1971 model year on the Cudas since they had quad headlights also, but they could be had as an extra cost option if so desired.

SG-30 books show zero production #'s for the E-Body Plymouths except for 1972. My car does not have the front deflector like shown in the photo of the '71, & the ASC sunroofs would have been the same on these.

The sunroof car above is an export car that was modified overseas.

It's nice to hear from of the few fans out there of the bench seat, column shift E-bodies. Sometimes I feel that I'm a unwanted step child for owning one.

Few seem to know that the bench seat was an extra cost option.

Have to pay extra for the good stuff. :-)

Barry,
The bench seat was a line item option on the window sticker, correct? My understanding is that the H4 code was a $16.50 option? I do not think I have yet to see a factory original sticker for a bench seat E-body.

My 71 Cuda was ordered with a benchseat, and the car came with all the original paperwork from the original owner, including the original window sticker, and yes the benchseat was shown as optional equipment, Sorry don't have the window sticker to scan as that was sold to a Mopars member along with the owners manual, and assorted other paperwork as the car was cloned into a hemicuda, and the benchseat went bye-bye in favor of a manual transmission and buckets, perhaps the member will chime in?, perhaps even start a post asking if anyone has a factory WS with the benchseat option listed on it, he's an active member IIRC...
