I have built a couple of 440s but never stroked one to 500 inches, how much block notching is required? I'm thinking not to much.any other small things to look for besides the oiling system? Thanks in advance for any help. MARK.

Very little to none if you use the Chevy pin size.

Rod pin size on the crankshaft and wrist pin size, use either H beam steel rods or I beam steel rods, aluminum rods are a different story You will probally have to grind a small amount off of the oil pump pick up boss with BB Chevy steel rods and a 4.25 stroke. if you use the 4.15 stroke with Mopar rod size and steel rods then you have a lot more grinding to do on every cylinder wall as well as on the oil pump pickup boss

My experience:

I have a 493 CI 440; used the Eagle stroker kit from Mancini. Each cylinder had to be notched at the bottom to clear the crank counterweights.

We also use a Moroso deep sump oil pan oil pickup The modifiction to the pickup make it all work was fairly extensive.

All work done a pro builder. I could prob dig up pics of the cylinder notching and perhaps the pickup work if you need it.

Send me a PM if you want pics.

I don't mind grinding but the chevy rod ends sounds like the way to go! Who makes the better kits, I was looking at ohio crankshaft, mancini, or muscle motors. I'm building this for a friend,I haven't called anybody yet just doing a little research first. Thanks again for the replies.

This might help. this is a 4.15 stroke, mopar size rods, you can see the notches on each exposed cylinder

Is this a street car, street and strip car or a race only motor? It makes a big difference on whos and which kit and parts I would use I usually make up my own parts from different manufactors, especially on race motors

its going to be a pump gas motor and a street car, maybe go to the track 1 or 2 times just to see how fast we can go. my friend has a set of victor 440s that were made by edelbrock but have the mopar logos on them, really nice heads, i'm trying to convince my other friend to buy them and use them instead of the regular rpms. i think we can get 500hp easy on pump gas.with a nice balanced rotating assembly it should run very well.

500 on pump gas is a low estimate, IMHO. It'll make more than that!

As far as clearance, I used Eagle H-beams with .990 pins on mine with a 4.15 crank, and the clearancing was minimal.

My build is using the 440Source 512 kit(4.25" stroke/7.10" rod) in a 1966 440 block. The only clearancing required was maybe an 1/8th" or less off the oil pickup boss.
