I have a 295 series tire and [now] a 3G Hemi w/6spd in front of my 8.75" axle.

I need to tear down the stock axles to replace the studs and bearings and am considering just upgrading to stronger axles.

Is it worth doing? Are the stock shafts sufficient? It will be used for street driving and likely some sticky tire autox/road course.

295's should be OK IMO, keep the adjustable bearing though.

Wilwood rear brake setup calls for Green bearings and I have been planning on running that.

How detrimental will that be?

People keep bagging on the greens. Properly utilized and setup they work fine. Improperly utilized they fail, surprise.

Dr Diff just weighed in on this issue not too long ago, read what he says.

a drag race car has to have aftermarket axles---yukon sells the cheapest set at about $120 each----cheap insurance for a rally type car....

With an open mind, read his list of negatives. Are they really that big of a deal?

The negatives I see are against the tapered bearings.

Ask the Hotchkis guys how well green bearings and Wilwoods work together.

I think your stock axles should be OK... inspect them carefully for signs of twist. Without slicks I think they are OK to re-use.

Wilwood brakes and straight roller axle bearings not so much on a handling car...

I have been running stock shafts in my 8.75 with 295's & 540 ftlbs rwtq for a while now, though I don't do any burnouts haha!
Been looking for new shafts as well since mine are 40 years old.

Dan Wersharr said had to change those bearings twice or more each season IIRC. They get play then knock the pads back and you lose your pedal. To run a fixed rear caliper, a floater is pretty much mandatory. Otherwise run the Wilwood D52 caliper or Dr Diff.
